Stomach Cancer Awareness

Cancer---- The Big C--- a terrible infraction to life. One of the worst forms that I have been associated with is stomach cancer. I have taken care of residents with stomach cancer and had a good friend that was inflicted by it as well. Stomach cancer awareness is observed in November === something that I think is ironic since it is the month with one of the biggest feast. Perhaps, that is why it was to raise awareness about gastric cancer.

November places a focus on food, nourishment, and family. For those living with stomach cancer or without a stomach may find it hard to be grateful. The first Stomach cancer Awareness Month in the United States was held in NOvember 2010. While it is great that there is a national awareness day Stomach Cancer should draw awareness all year long

The goals of stomach cancer awareness are to:

  • Raise awareness and support efforts to educate people about stomach cancer, including risk factors, prevention and early detection
  • Recognize the need for additional funding and research into early diagnosis and treatment for stomach cancer
  • Raise funds for stomach cancer research
  • Encourage people and interested groups and organizations to observe and support Stomach Cancer Awareness Month through appropriate programs and activities to promote public awareness of, and potential treatments for, stomach cancer
  • Empower everyone by uniting the caring power of people worldwide affected by stomach cancer
  • Supporters hope that greater awareness and knowledge will lead to earlier detection of stomach cancer, which is directly associated with higher long-term survival rates, and that money raised for stomach cancer research will result in better detection, treatments, improved survival rates, and ultimately a cure for this deadly disease.

all patients, caregivers, families, friends, businesses and organizations to participate to bring awareness to Stomach cancer. Some ways to help bring awareness are:

  • Make it a disease with a face by sharing personal stories
  • make stomach cancer a subject to be discussed in your community
  • Bring awareness to social media
  • attend or raise funds for stomach cancer awareness

As I stated the first National Stomach Cancer Awareness month took place in the United States November 2010. A year later more organizations became involved and more local events were held as well as funds being raised. In 2012 the No Stomach For Cancer Walk was hosted for the first time. Each year the organization continues to grow as they spread the word and share knowledge. Through awareness funds can be raised and lives can be saved. As in most cancers early detection is important so that treatment can take place. In addition awareness can help with prevention
