Halloween Party Recipe: Edible Eyeballs

halloween howl
    1 dozen hard boiled eggs
    Mayonnaise
    1/8 tsp Onion Powder
    24 green olives with pimentos
    1/8 tsp Dry Yellow Mustard
1/8 tsp Salt or to taste
    Toothpicks
Red Food Coloring (paste is best)

Cut the eggs in half lengthwise. Scoop out the yolks into a bowl. Set whites aside for a moment.
Mash egg yolks with fork. Mix in some mayonnaise, onion powder, mustard and salt. Stir well. Place 1 teaspoon of mixture in each half of cooked egg whites.
Push a green olive into the center of the egg yolk mixture, making sure the red pimento is "looking" out.
Dip toothpick in red food coloring and make "red veins" in the yolk mixture.

Back to school at our house means on the go. I have a house full of teens with a few little ones mixed in the bunch and everyone it seems is in a hurry. When I was given the chance to host a party where Kashi would supply the snacks I thought of no better place than the church workout group. At our church we have a group of kids who come together to work out and after a hard work out and even before a nutritious snack is always welcome. Kashi TLC Layered Granola Bars pleased the group in both taste, the fact that they were simple and quick to eat and offered nutrition (something the kids were not aware of but the moms sure were)

TLC® Layered Granola Bars begin with Kashis signature blend of 7 whole grains for a hearty, natural wholesomeness. The chewy granola base is then topped with real fruit spread and hearty nuts. Each bar offers 4g of fiber, 4g of protein and real fruit There are just a few things that are missing such as artificial flavors and preservatives but don't worry you will never miss them. The Peanutty Dark Chocolate Layered Bars are made with chewy granola, roasted peanuts and peanut butter, then layered with real fruit spread mixed with dark chocolate. A sprinkle of roasted peanuts and bits of chocolate tops them off. Each bar has 7 grams of fiber* and 4 grams of protein. Each delicious bar is  whole grain goodness layered wih tasty ingredients that you can enjoy and feel good about.

My thoughts: I liked the fact that I could offer these teens and preteens a delicious snack that they all enjoyed and I could feel good about giving them. They enjoyed the delicous bars and thanked me for bringing them. Often I find when a teen thanks you for bringing them something you offered them something that they really liked

No Slippy Hair Clippy Review and Giveaway

I just love this picture of my little princess. Her beautiful smile and those eyes that seem magical and you wonder what thoughts are going on. I also love her long beautiful hair and the one way that we manage to keep it looking great is by using super cute clips and hair pieces. Now while there are many boutiques on the market that sell clips our favorite and the one that I have used for the longest period of time is No Slippy Hair Clippy.

Recently we received a wonderful surprise in the mail. It was a package from No Slippy Hair Clippy and contained several beautiful clips for her to wear. Among the clips one of our favorites was the Laney frog prince.
In the package was also a beautiful flower clip. I loved the fact that there were several types of flower clips available and that the flower clips came in a variety of colors. This type of clip is the kind that my girls love using to dress up on nights that they go up. While pony tails and every day hair clips are ok for normal days but those special times when you want to look your best a clip like the one we were sent looks the best.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and many organizations, companies and teams are getting involved. Susan G. Komen foundation is named after a brave woman who fought breast cancer with her heart, body and soul all the while thinking of others and spending time to think of ways to make life better for other women battling breast cancer. It was a promise from Susan's sister Nancy Brinker that she would do everything she could to end breast cancer that would lead to the foundation Susan G. Komen for the Cure.  Since the foundations inception in 1982 around $1.9 billion has been invested to find a cure. Together the network of breast cancer survivors and activists work together to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Events such as Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure and Susan G. Komen 3 day for the cure and with the help of donors, sponsors and fellow supporters the foundation has become the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.

Pretzel Crisps   the low fat, low calorie flat baked pretzel cracker is proud to join the fight and help donate to the cause. For every specially marked 14 oz. Pretzel Crisps bag sold from August through October 2011, Snack Factory will donate a portion of the proceeds with a minimum of $100,000 to Komen. Working together we can help fund a cure and make a difference in the lives of family, friends and community.

I was sent samples of Pretzel Crisps snacks when I was asked to help spread the nurse about the program

    Turkey and Cheese Panini

    2 tablespoons fat-free mayonnaise
    4 teaspoons basil pesto
8 (1-ounce) thin slices sourdough bread
8 ounces sliced cooked turkey breast
2 ounces thinly sliced provolone cheese
    8 (1/8-inch-thick) slices tomato
    Cooking spray

Combine mayonnaise and pesto, stirring well. Spread 1 tablespoon mayonnaise mixture on each of 4 bread slices; top each slice with 2 ounces turkey, 1/2 ounce cheese, and 2 tomato slices. Top with remaining bread slices. Preheat grill pan or large nonstick skillet coated with cooking spray over medium heat. Add sandwiches to pan; top with another heavy skillet. Cook 3 minutes on each side or until golden brown.

Note: In Italian, "panini" means small bread and refers to a pressed sandwich. Using a grill skillet gives the sandwich appetizing grill marks, but the recipe works just as well in a regular nonstick skillet. If you don't have provolone cheese, you can use mozzarella.

    MidTerm Report

The other day my child bravely brought home a note from his teacher. It was a midterm report and a note that reminded parents to sign up for parent / teacher conference. I have visited the teacher many different times and while I have learned not to be overwhelming I also do not want to have the teacher in full controll of the meeting to where I can not ask questions or get input. A small checklist of items that I make a list of before meeting the teacher is

what area does the teacher see my child have strength in , what area do they think my child is weakest in

any recomendations of what I can do at home to help my child

does the school offer any programs that will help my child such as after school tutoring, reading class etc...

what is the best way to get a message from the teacher if I need to talk to them (some teachers have certian times and days that are best to call, others may prefer a note, and yet some have an open door where parent can feel to talk to teacher any time)

make sure that the teacher has contact information for me how to get hold of me if needed

With these few areas in mind and a conversation started the school year seems to normally go better Do you have any tips for parent teacher meetings? Would love to hear them
