The lives of many were changed that fateful day December 7. 1941 during the Pearl Harbor attack. Those who fought in the war, those lives affected by the war, their children, grandchildren, and the generations to come. The memories of the fallen are celebrated
- Five minutes before 8 am hawaii time, a Japanese dive bomber bearing the red symbol of the Rising Sun of Japan on its wings appears out of the clouds about the island of Oahu. Not just one plane but 360 warplanes came to attack that day. The surprise assault would attack the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor. It would be the straw that broke the camels back and draw the U.S. into World War II
- That early Sunday morning found many military personnel on leave to attend religious services off base. The planes had been sited by a radar operator heading toward the island from the north but instructed not to sound alarms the Japanese air assault was devastating surprise.
- The bombing left the Pacific fleet in shock, destroyed and severely damaged. Five battleships, three destroyers, seven other ships and more than 200 aircraft were destroyed. More than 2,400 Americans killed and another 1,200 wounded.
