Black History Month ==== Meet Rosa Parks , her birthday February 4

Today we wish Rosa Parks a Happy Birthday. Rosa Parks from America was a hard working woman who is honored by civil right leaders. Not because of the color of her skin but because she stood up for herself and by doing so she stood up for many. A few states celebrates February 4th , Rosa's birthday, as a holiday. In other states the day of her arrest December 1st is honored.

The world was much different in the 1950s and 60s. It was expected that if a black woman was sitting on a bus seat and a white man decided he wanted it the lady was to get up and gracefully allow him to sit. Rosa Parks was tired from working as a seamstress and the fact that she was 42 years old did not help her tired status so when she sat down on that bus seat I can imagine it was a relief. So when a white man demanded the seat that day in Montgomery Alabama in 1955 Rosa Parks refused to get up. She did not know it at the time but her actions that day would help start the civil rights movement in the United States. A bus boycott would be organized the day that Parks was convicted of violating the segregation law. The movement would be led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

While Rosa may have become famous after the bus ride she had been involved in the movement for some time When she was arrested Rosa was secretary of the local NAACP. She had helped raise money for causes related to discrimination and when she passed in 2005 Rosa Parks became the first african american woaman to be buried to lie in state in the capitol Rotunda/
