Protect our Children From Domestic Abuse

The holidays can be a bit stressful. At times it can be a bit scary and isolating for those that are living with someone who has an abusive side. If that individual happens to be a parent then it complicates things even more Making sure that children do not witness or become part of the abuse is the first step.

If you are living in an abusive relationship even if things are going right currently you should always have a safety plan and a hotline number at all times. If an issue does develop with your partner and his or her aggravation is rising then you remember not to go towards children so that you can keep them safe you want to keep the anger away from the kids.

Your children should know when and how to call 911 if and when needed. They should also know when to leave the house if things escalate. A neighbor should know that they are part of the rescue plan if needed. A great idea for child to know when to leave is a code word that only you and your child know. If there is no where or person that can help then devise a safe room that they can go to when afraid. Remind them no matter what to not get involved in the action that is occurring it will only make things worst.

Living in such conditions can make our children quite safety as well. It is a good idea to have a counselor or someone that the child can talk to and trust. Ensure your child that it is not their fault and that you love them. Make sure they know that they understand that you are trying to protect them.
