Nearly everyone has heard about Facebook, and many choose to use it daily. Facebook is a social networking service that launched on February 4th, 2004. Mark Zuckerberg founded facebook with college roommates and fellow students at Harvard University. At first the only individuals that could use the service was the founders of the service. Later, it was expanded to other colleges in Boston area and the group continued to grow as students from other universities joined in. By September 2006 everyone with a valid email address could join in with the only stipulation being user must be over age of 13.
In 2003, the only communications between organizations were paper sheets that were passed out among private directories. There was a lot of talk about having one universal system within Harvard, it needed to be done quickly. January 2004, Zuckerberg began to create a new website with the name of "The Facebook". Mark and a fellow student agreed to invest $1,000 each into the new system. In one month, on February 4, 2004 Zuckerberg launched the system page known as "TheFacebook" at thefacebook.com. However, this is not where zuckerberg wanted to stop as he wanted to go further and did.
Before long there were over 1,000 registered users. The page was growing fast but trouble as brewing. it seems that his fellow schoolmates thought he had did them wrong and instead of creating what they wanted he had built a competing website. Partially because of the trouble the membership to thefacebook was restricted to students of Harvard University. This was still a great following as over half the undergraduate students registered for the service. From here zuckerberg would gain fellow students help with graphics and etc...
