The number 1 killer of women is cardiovascular disease. Heart disease and strokes lead the way taking away the women we love. American Hearth Month is the month of February. This month as well in past years the society has hosted campaign Go Red for Women. The goal is to motivate, educate, support and help save each other. Nearly 45% of women ages 20+ are living with some form of cardiovascular disease. Yes, I did say that right young age of 20 years old. The life stages of women through pregnancy, menopause and etc can put them at risk.
Hile this campaign may be about wearing red.... its much more.
This campaign is also about sharing heart health .... its much more
Wear red day for heart awareness is about making a commitment to stand together with other women who have chose to take charge of their own heart health and share with those that are in their lives.
There are many signs of cardiovascular issues. Take a look at the picture above that shows several symptoms that may occur. In the case of a heart attack, you may experience:
- Uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain in the center of your chest. It lasts more than a few minutes or goes away and comes back.
- Pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.
- Shortness of breath with or without chest discomfort.
- Other signs such as breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness.
- As with men, women’s most common heart attack symptom is chest pain or discomfort.
- Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body
- Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding.
- Sudden trouble seeing or blurred vision in one or both eyes.
- Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination.
- Sudden severe headache with no known cause
So what can you do to make things better for you??? There are in fact a few different things you can do.
One thing we can all do to help ladies who may have and know or do not know as of yet about cardiovascular issues is to wear red.
