- Perennial plants need to be divided to improve growth and create new plants for your garden
- Now is the time to divide Hostas while they are not leafing
- The tips of fuchsia and sweat pea plants need to be pinched. This will encourage bushy plants this summer
- If you plant to move evergreen shrubs and trees now is the time to do so. The soil is not frozen or waterlogged
- Fertilize trees, shrubs and hedges with a slow release fertilizer Roses will need to be fed as they come into growth
- tie up climbing and rambling roses at the same time make sure that any trees or bushes are not cutting into the trunk too much. The trunk will need room to expand so these ties should be loosened
- Any dead foliage on perennials and ornamental grasses should be cut back to attract new growth
- Tie up honeysuckle and clematis vines to train them
- Deadhead daffodils and tulips as they die out but leave the foliage allowing ti to die back naturally
