Keep Right

Take a drive in the summer time is one of my favorite activities. Getting out there and seeing what is out and about is fun to me. The issue is not the drive but it is often my fellow drivers. Drivers that simply seem to believe the road belongs to them and have no intention of sharing the road. While there has been a few rules set up for driving many times they are ignored.

One of these driving laws pertains to lane courtesy. While the highway is set up so that slower moving traffic keeps right the left lane often remains clogged. To make drivers aware of this the National Motorists Association has designated June as Lane Courtesy Month. Perhaps the awareness will help to improve traffic flow which in turn will prevent accidents and even save a bit of gas.

Not following the lane courtesy rule amounts to highway build up leading to frustration. Tailgating, weaving in and out of traffic and speeding all increase the frustration and also increase the dangers of driving and waste fuel. Vehicles burn the most fuel when accelerating. When the car can go at a consistent speed less fuel is used. Again another reason to follow the rules of the road with gas prices rising and new tax at least here in Illinois

While many traffic laws such as speeding, seatbelt usage and driving in construction zone the issue of lane courtesy is not paid much attention to.
