Target and TwitterMoms want to ask one question What three favorite family Thanksgiving traditions have you passed or will pass on to your children

1. One thing that we do quite a bit is to say what we are thankful for. My grandmother started this and each year this tradition is passed along. Even when our family was small we would go around the table stating what we were thankful for. Now that our family is bigger we stand around the kitchen and each of us say at least one thing that we are thankful for.


2. As far back as I can remember the man of the house would always slice the turkey. My grandfather, my father and now my husband have participated in each of these. It is very important as our whole family sits and watches the turkey be sliced. Not only is it a boost of confidence to the man of the house but for me it is a relief to know that we have a main core to depend on.


3. When I was a young woman and played with my cousins outside I always envied my mom who would sit inside and chat with her mom and sisters as they did the dishes together. What a wonderful time they would have. This is one tradition that I carried on with my mother when I got old enough and know my daughter and my daughter in laws.

Senior Night Football Game

Senior Night football game was one that was super important to me. To be able to walk my son across the field was quite an event. For one young man this event became bitter sweet. Michael Drake, a senior at Stow High School, lost his father in 2005 to lymphoma. Such an ordeal for a young man to experience. When senior night came up Michael thought he would be accompanied across the field by his mother and sister for senior night. Michael was stunned when he saw Josh Cribbs. Michael's late father had given Cribbs a chance to play at Kent State and served as a father figure to him as well. So when the time came to pay it back Cribbs jumped at the chance and thought of being able to give something back to the coach he loved. Say what you want about NFL football players but I must say Josh Cribbs did a stand up deed.

Clint Eastwood and retirement

One of my all time favorite actors is Clint Eastwood. Starring in over 60 movies and starting as far back as 1955 Clint Eastwood has quite a bit under his belt. Not only acting but directing great movies will be Clint Eastwood's legacy. Movies such as Dirty Hairy, The Outlaw Josey Wales, Every Which Way But Loose, and Pink Cadillac are all favorites of mine. Now after all this great work many are saying it is time for Cling Eastwood to retire. The National Enquirer says the look of Eastwood shocks his colleagues who believes he is beyond his prime. I think that with all that Clint has done for the industry he should be able to work as long as he pleases. What do you think

Oatmeal Cookies recipe

One of my favorite recipes to fix when the weather turns cooler is oatmeal cookies. The website real simple featured this recipe

Oatmeal Cookies

3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick), softened
1 1/4 cups oatmeal
1 egg
3 tablespoons whole milk
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1.Preheat oven to 375° F. Lightly coat a baking sheet with cooking spray.
2.In a medium mixing bowl, combine the brown sugar and butter until well blended. Add the oatmeal, egg, and milk, stirring well. In a small bowl, stir together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, and salt. Gradually add to the oatmeal mixture, stirring well. Stir in the walnuts, raisins, and vanilla.
3.Drop the dough by tablespoonfuls, spaced about 1 inch apart, onto the baking sheet. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes. Transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool. Repeat with the remaining dough.

Holiday Spectacular on Sage and Savvy

I have been introduced to a few new things since I have started to care for my nephews and one of these is Yo Gabba Gabba. If you have never seen this show let me tell you cartoons have changed in time and this one is great. Sadie Hawkins Day

How many of you all know what Sadie Hawkins day is? Well I did not realize til talking to my children that yesterday was Sadie Hawkins day. Sadie Hawkins day is always the
Saturday that follows November 9th which means it was yesterday. Sadie Hawkins was a famous character in Li'l Abner. Sadie was not pretty in fact she was pretty homely. At the age of 35 and still waiting for suitors to call and her father worrying that Sadie may never marry called together all unmarried men and declared it "Sadie Hawkins Day" At this event Sadie would chase down her man and the one she caught she would marry. After this first event the spinster ladies believed that it should become an annual event. Sadie Hawkins Day was first mentioned in November 13, 1937 Li'l Abner cartoon strip. It is an annual event that our junior high children have a dance where the girls ask the boys and a social event takes place. Have you heard of this day do you all do anything special.

I am a diabetic and often have to look for wonderful recipes that all will like I have been able to locate a great source of information with tons of recipes for thanksgiving. This source is the diabetic gourmet. Here is a wonderful recipe that you may want to serve for thanksgiving as well
Turkey Gravy

Package Neck, heart, gizzard from TURKEY giblets
1 Medium carrot thickly sliced
1 Medium onion thickly sliced
1 Medium celery rib thickly sliced
1/2 Teaspoon salt
1 TURKEY liver
3 Tablespoons fat from poultry drippings
3 Tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/2 Teaspoon salt

In a 3-quart saucepan, over high heat, place neck, heart, gizzard, vegetables, and salt in enough water to cover. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat to low; cover and simmer 45 minutes.
Add liver and cook 15 minutes longer. Strain both into a large bowl; cover and reserve broth in the refrigerator.
To make gravy, remove the cooked turkey and roasting rack from the roasting pan. Pour poultry drippings through a sieve into a 4-cup measuring cup.
Add 1 cup giblet broth to the roasting pan and stir until the crusty brown bits are loosened; pour the deglazed liquid/broth into the 4-cup measure. Let the mixture stand a few minutes, until the fat rises to the top.
Over medium heat, spoon 3 tablespoons fat from the poultry drippings into a 2-quart saucepan. Whisk flour and salt into the heated fat and continue to cook and stir until the flour turns golden.
Meanwhile, skim and discard any fat that remains on top of the poultry drippings. Add remaining broth and enough water to the poultry drippings to equal 3-1/2 cups.
Gradually whisk in warm poultry drippings/broth mixture. Cook and stir, until gravy boils and is slighty thick.
Provides 14 servings at 1/4 cup per portion.

November 14 Young Readers Day

November 14, 2009 is Young Readers Day. Because reading is fundamental it is very important to make reading fun and allowthe young readers see us reading as well. Reading opens many doors that otherwise may not have been open. Books can be mysterious, funny, real life or just simple. Young readers will normally find what they like and spend time lost inside the pages of the book. Young Readers day was co-founded in 1989 by Pizza Hut and the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress.
