By the title of this post you may believe that we are going to talk about traveling on the greyhound.
If that is the case you may want to stop reading this post. This post is truly about one of the most beautiful breeds of dogs, the Greyhound.
The greyhound as I stated is a breed of dog. This breed of dog has been bred for chasing game and racing. Adoption of Greyhound racing dogs has helped build the popularity as a family pet.
The Webster dictionary describes a Greyhound as "any breed of tall slender graceful smooth coated dogs characterized by swiftness and keen sight" The greyhound is a gentle and intelligent breed of dog with long powerful legs, deep chest, flexible spine and slim build. The build of their body helps the greyhound to reach average race speeds around 40 mph.
History represents the greyhound to be connected with Ancient Egypt. There is no real evidence but it is thought that the breed dates back to ancient times. In ancient times the greyhound may have helped with herding dogs. Greyhounds have keen eyesight and most likely were used to help in hunting as well.
The name of the "greyhound" may have came from the Old English word grighund. "Hund" in modern days may mean "hound" the "grig" no one quite knows where it comes from but it is thought that "grey" may have been gathered from its color.
