Are you looking for a way to add a bit of spice to your holiday cooking? Well I have a product that will help you do that quick and easy. It will add a bit of extra heat and leave your guest with a memory of goodness that they have not tried otherwise. Many products on the market have excessive sodium and unnatural ingredients but with Start! Original Hot Curry Sauce you will not find either of these. I was sent a free sample and was plesantly surprised to say the least. The hot sauce is vegan certified, GMO, MSG and gluten free. Sounds like it could be used with nearly every type of diet and its sure to give a splash of flavor whenever it is used.

Just take a look Start! has no calories, fat, cholestrol or sugar and have very low sodium.

We used it to make a spicy recipe of our own

1 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsps butter
1 tbsp worcestershire sauce
12 tsp hot sauce
34 tsp ground cumin
12 tsp paprika
12 tsp garlic (ground)
2 cups pecan (halves)
2 tsps kosher salt

Preheat oven to 325ยบ. Heat the oil and butter until melted in a saucepan over low heat. Add the remaining ingredients except for the nuts and salt. Simmer over low heat 2-3 minutes to blend.  Add the nuts and toss to coat. Spread on baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes, shaking occasionally.  Toss the hot nuts with the salt and let cool to room temperature on a baking sheet. Store in an airtight container.

November 2 Day of Deviled Eggs

History of Deviled Eggs:
there is no specific time, place or person that the deviled eggs can be tied into. It is believed that deviled eggs were first enjoyed by ancient romans. The term "deviled" refers to highly seasoned fried or boiled dishes and then became a culinary term to describe fiery hot spiced dishes or condiments. It is believed that the term deviled evolved from the symbol of the devil and the excessive heat of his sorroundings. Today's term of deviled refers to a broader meaning and is used to define a food that is dark, rich, chocolate, spicy or stimulating item that contains heavy seasoning. Deviled is ofter used to describe eggs, crab, cakes, and other dishes.

Classic Deviled Eggs

6 hard-cooked eggs, peeled and cut lengthwise
¼ cup Light Mayonnaise or Salad Dressing
½ teaspoon dry ground mustard
½ teaspoon white vinegar
1/8 teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
Paprika for garnish
Pop out (remove) the egg yolks to a small bowl and mash with a fork. Add mayonnaise, mustard powder, vinegar, salt and pepper and mix thoroughly. Fill the empty egg white shells with the mixture and sprinkle lightly with paprika.
Cover lightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for up to one day before serving.

    Pumpkin and Black Bean Chili

Halloween night will be more than just a spooky night. It will be a night when our entire family will celebrate the union of a family coming together. My brother and his wife will celebrate with their small family and our entire family of a marriage that united two wonderful adults. One thing that will be served that night is chili. Whether they will choose to serve the following chilli or not I believe it would be perfect for a fall night.

    Pumpkin and Black Bean Chili
2 pounds pumpkin or butternut squash, peeled and seeded
1 T. extra virgin olive oil
    1 large onion, chopped
    1 garlic clove, minced
    1 jalapeno chile, minced
One 14.5 oz. can diced tomatoes, drained
One 14.5 oz. can crushed tomatoes
    1 c. water
    1 c. apple juice
    4 T. chili powder
    1 t. salt
    1/8 t. cayenne pepper
3 c. cooked or canned black beans, rinsed and drained
Cut the pumpkin into 1/2-inch chunks and set aside.
Heat the oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onion, garlic and jalapeno. Cover and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened, about 10 minutes. Add the reserved pumpkin, diced tomatoes, crushed tomatoes, water, apple juice, chili powder, salt and cayenne, and stir well. Bring to a boil, lower the heat, cover and simmer until the pumpkin is tender, about 30 minutes.
Add the beans, and more water if the chili is too think for your taste. Cover and continue to simmer about 15 minutes to blend flavors. Serve hot.
