Aloha Friday July 17, 2009

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response

My son and daughter will be traveling away to go to college. So my question has to do with that.

What is the one thing you would tell my children to be sure to take with them?

If you want to play along head over to the blog An Island Life

Food 4 Thought Friday

What is a fear you currently have?

of not being able to help my children achieve, of my sister with schizo getting lost not coming home or hurting herself

Midnight Snack
When is the last time you took time for yourself?

Melissa Beth Designs Review

Melissa Beth Designs are unique, stylish, for the
students and parent alike and just what you may need. Melissa Beth Designs are classy little bags that are used to hold laptops, baby equipment, supplies for school or whatever else you may need.

Melissa Beth Designs began as stylish laptop computer bags and have grown from there. Melissa Beth offers laptop totes, laptop sleeves, make-up cases and travel accessories that look great, help you keep in style while having fun and are very functional.

We received the Don't Leave Me Hangin' bag and I think it is perfect for traveling as well as my daughter who will be leaving for college. A dorm room nor hotel room has very much room for large makeup cases so the Don't Leave Me Hangin' is perfect for either location. The Don't Leave Me Hangin' has compartments for makeup, shampoo, and whatever you may need to take with you. With 5 zipper compartments of various sizes the Melissa Beth Don't Leave Me Hangin' bag is perfect. When not in use it folds back up no bigger than a pocket book and secures together with strong Velcro. I believe that my daughter will find valuable use with this great bag.

Melissa Beth Designs makes other great products as well. The Baby-Umptious Bag looks like a great bag for the little one on the go.

To find out what other great type of bags Melissa Beth Designs sells I believe I will allow you to research on your own. So head over to the Melissa Beth Designs and see what bag they have to fit your personality.

Thankful Thursday

It has been a little while since I have not participated in the weekly meme or gathering of friends as I like to refer to Thankful Thursday for a little while. That does not mean that I do not have anything to be thankful for because I believe everyday that we wake up in the morning we have something to be thankful for.

I am thankful for the wonderful weather that we have been lucky to receive in the middle of July it is normally so hot one actually wears the air. This year we have received the needed rain that we normally do not receive and we have not had the terrible heat that often haunts us in this part of the state. I am very thankful for the weather and also for the fact that I have not overheated in this old house that has poor ventilation and no central air. I have 3 window ac units and a couple of fans that help to keep us all cooled off. Even the ones that sleep up stairs where the heat always rises to have not complained as of yet.

I am thankful for the wonderful sales that were at the grocery store last time I went shopping. I bought 3 weeks full of groceries and believe it or not as we are 1/2 way through that 3rd week we are doing wonderfully. I will only need a few things to help me get through the last week of the month. YEAH!!!!!!! Thanksgiving is knowing that there is food to eat when the teens are hungry and that the groceries are lasting through a hard part of the year when everyone is home.

I am thankful that two of my children are ready to head off to college. Thankful that they received some financial aid, earned scholarships and that we are not going into great debt to send them to college. Yes!!!! I am so pleased that all is working out. Next year I will have the twins heading off to college as well. I am thankful that they are looking into where they will be going and preparing now.

I am thankful that I have children who desire to work for God. My daughter will be heading to school to study social work planning on using it in the mission field. My son is studying Gods word and praying that he finds the path that God wants for him. It is this son that has always felt that God wanted him to preach or teach his word. A third child has the desire to learn construction, which none of us have any idea of that field, so that he can help those hit with destruction or the needy.

What are you thankful for? Join the group of blogger's listing what they are thankful for this Thursday on the blog Spiritually Unequal Marriage

Fancy Fortune Cookies Review and Giveaway

Fortune cookies to me used to mean one of two things. Either they would bring good luck or I simply did not want to read them because they would bring bad luck. Now all I can see thanks to Fancy Fortune Cookies they bring delicious and tasty news. Perhaps Fancy Fortune Cookies are so delicious because they are baked fresh in their personal bakery. I tasted both the small and the large Fancy Fortune Cookies and they were delicious. In fact they sent several samples of the regular size Fancy Fortune Cookies and after I had one or two my teens made quick work of them. They were gone in as fast as they could read the fortunes found inside of them.

As a small business owner one great thing to do was to join the cities better business bureau. Guess what Fancy Fortune Cookies think so highly of their great fortune cookies that they wrote their own future and joined the Better Business Bureau. Let me tell you from the time that the great Fancy Fortune Cookies are received they look delicious with no broken parts and they continue to tantalize your eyes until they touch your taste buds. They both look great and taste great. The only minor complaint that I did have is that the fortunes could have been better. That came from teens who loved the taste of the cookie but thought they could write a better fortune. If you feel the same way about fortunes and being able to write them yourself you can do just that. Fancy Fortune Cookies allow you to personalize the fortunes found inside the cookies if you wish.

On top of that if you are not pleased completely by the fortune cookies you receive from Fancy Fortune Cookies you can return them for 100% money back guarantee. Now that just talks volumes to me. A company who is ready to put their back on the line like that you know their product has to be great.

Planning that perfect party and want the flavor and or color to match? That can be done since Fancy Fortune Cookies are offered in several different flavors and colors.

I was very pleased by the Fancy Fortune Cookie company. If you want to test them out for yourself you can order them directly off the Fancy Fortune Cookie Website and they will be delivered to you by Fed Ex.

Fancy Fortune Cookies want to allow one of Annie's Home readers a chance to shop for some of their own cookies. They are offering a $50 gift card to shop on the website.

In order to win you must: Tell me what you would purchase if you was the lucky winner

What I learned this week July 14

I found out this week how out of shape I really am. I have been walking once again to not only help with my diabetes but to also get back into shape and feel better. I love those individuals who are up in age and still compete in the senior Olympics. Oh my I hope that I am in near the condition of many of those that I salute. My desire is to be able to walk in a 5K walk. I would love to be able to meet my goal. The last week I have been walking more and more and now I am walking between 2 to 8 miles a day. Slow paced but I have learned that I can do it. SO if the speed can be picked up I would love to walk in the upcoming walks for charities. If you have any tips I would love to hear them so that I can learn more.

Want to share what you learned or see what others did? Head over to the blog Musings of a Housewife

Random THoughts Tuesday July 14, 2009

randomtuesday

These random thoughts are thoughts that I have not placed on my blog as of yet because they are so random that they could not possibly hold a post by their selves

My daughter will be home this weekend. My daughter that graduated high school has been away for nearly 2 weeks now. Oh my the stories she will be able to tell me. I always love it when my kids travel away and come home. They carry back with them stories and I am always glad to have them back in the house. However when this young lady gets home she will have to clean her room because she left in a state of devastation.

My grand baby princess will be coming for a visit on Saturday as well. Always glad to see this little one. She has once again gained new talents. She is high stepping it, next thing you know she will be walking by herself. She is also cutting more teeth. her momma is a big worry wart and worries about all the new teeth coming in.

In under 6 weeks my son will be moving out to go to college. He has visited places before but this will be the real thing. He will live in the dorms and I will not see him every day. I of course will miss him but know he is doing all he can for his education. He is bound to make us and himself happy. The goal is to become a teacher. He wants to serve in underprivileged areas. My daughter who will start college will major in social work with emphasis on missions and wants to help those in need while telling about God. How wonderful the Lord has truly blessed us.

Those are my random thoughts. Share yours or read more at the Un Mom blog

Super Cute Baby Items

I am not sure if you are aware of it or not but the blog Two of a Kind Working on a Full House is having a baby bash. If you have not checked it out you should. Skoy review and giveaway

Do I have something to share with you today. I have found the ability to use and reuse needed supplies growing. Now they have a replacement for paper towels that many people use but can never reuse. Now Skoy replaces that. What exactly is skoy? Skoy is a multi use cloth that is not only reusable but also:
100% biodegradable

Absorbent

Re-usable

Clean

and comes in a variety of colors.

Skoy was created by 2 moms who wanted to find a better, more economical., greener way to complete household chores like washing windows. Skoy is very economical as because Skoy can be used several times the economical savings from that of paper towels is actually great. For a 4 pack of skoy you will pay $5.99 and for a normal roll of paper towel in my area you are normally paying $1.50 for the cheapest. Because the skoy can be reused it can do the work of 15 rolls of paper towel. Great!!!!!!! What do you think of that kind of saving? To me it is great and I absolutely could use a savings like that in my household budget. After using the Skoy and needing to clean to prepare for another use just simply throw it in the washer and dryer and poof!!!!!! its ready to work for you again. Skoy is nontoxic as well so there is no need to worry. Yeah!!!!!! A product that is nontoxic and works hard to clean without spending allot of money. Sounds like a deal for me.

Buy: you can order Skoy you can locate a retailer near you by following this link http://www.skoycloth.com/index_files/ourfriends.html or you can order directly off of the skoy website.

One of Annies Home lucky readers will be able to win a four (4) pack of Skoy for their self.

To enter you must first: share something about skoy product or website that caught your eye

Extra Entries:
  • follow skoy on facebook (3 entries)
  • follow my blog (3 entries)
  • subscribe to my blog feed through reader (2 entries)
  • subscribe to my blog through email (3 entries)
  • follow me on twitter let me know your ID (2 entries)
  • tweet about contest leave link in comment (1 entry per day)
  • blog about this leave link in comment (5 entries)

Contest starts now and will run through August 3, 2009 Remember email in comment or on blog and each entry deserves own comment. Good Luck

Homemaking Tip for This Week:

At the well: behavior and how to face it

Gathering at the well a spot where we come together weekly and talk about problems that we face in our walk with Christ. I love how we can openly share without thought of anyone getting angry or otherwise detesting. This week the subject is dealing with problems as parents:

How can you react when someone tries to undermine you as a parent or encourages something with your children that you do not agree with? Do you get mad or angry like a momma bear? (I used to.) How can you better react and still stay in the Spirit?

What ways can we rebuke un-Godliness and still be loving? Maybe it is a display of an un-Godly relationship or public drinking or something else that you have taught your children displeases the Lord?

How do you react when your small child asks a family member who is doing something wrong why they do that? Do you hush the child or make excuses? Is your reaction understandable to the child and in the Spirit?

I have to say that this has happened quite often and it is not always easy to overlook. My children know what is expected and strive to please both parent and their Lord. I do not get angry easily but it does happen and when it does those that love me call it my time of soapbox. I not only talk to my teens or children about what the problem is but also to those who are allowing that problem or idea to enter my childs life. I talk, never yell, yelling does not do anything but cause more problems.

I am one of those mothers who keep my children close by so that they know to understand behavior that is not right. I have went with my children to fun places. I never try to hold them back I just go with them. If these places are acceptable then they may go by theirselves. Often though they ask that I go with them.

I did in the past hush my child then I wondered aloud why and if I was sending my child the wrong message. If I teach them one thing and then do not say anything to someone else when we notice them doing it then what message does that send. I choose to tell all those around me what I accept at correct behavior and what I do not. If my child ask questions I simply state that they have been taught not to partake in such behavior. Often the behavior that is addressed the offender will apologize or tell the child that the reason why or that there is not a real reason and that it is just a bad habit

Not Me Monday

Not Me Monday is a weekly meme brought to you by the blog My Charming Kids
Are you feeling guilty for not changing your children's bedsheets for weeks on end? Feel trashy taking your trash to the curb with no bra on? Overcome with embarrassment after your child wets his pants in public? We'll don't be! Not Me! Monday was born out of my desire to admit some of my imperfection and reveal a few moments I'd rather forget. You may find it therapeutic to join in and do the same thing!

This week has not been a week of boredom. My son did not say that he could not wait to get back to school. It is not me who is so proud of this son that I bragged all day yesterday about him. I do not see my son growing up and maturing. It is not me who is wondering where my little boy has gone to. It is not me even though my son is a senior in high school that wants to bottle him and keep him small forever.

I am not also an ecstatic grandmother who has a granddaughter princess who loves to talk on the phone. It is not me and princess talking on the phone chatting away and loving to hear her say Nana and papa. No it would not be me who would have a smile on my face for the entire few minutes that I chat with princess.

It is not me who is ready to have a party because all the load of laundry is done. It is not me who last week would have hired a professional laundry person to get it all under control. Nope not me. I did not work the entire week on that laundry and was not a bit pleased when it was all done. I do not believe that it had anything to do with camp or house guest that made that laundry pile larger than it normally is.

That was my week or maybe it wasn't What is your week or what was it not? List it over at the blog My Charming Kids

Blue Monday July 13,2009

Taken recently at our church mission block party. This little girl is getting a snocone for herself. The snocone in the cup is blue and so is the ice chest that the ice is kept inside.
