I wish you peace

International Day of Peace was created to help promote peace in the world. Peace can be a wonderful time when all is still and the process of growing continues. Peace is something I pray that the future generations will be able to have in abundance. Because I am not the only individual that holds this hop the International Day of Peace was created

In 1981 the United Nations created the International Day of Peace. By 2002 the day was made into a permanent holiday. With the use of education and bring awareness to the public the United Nations hopes to stengthen the ideal of peace throughout the world. So today, September 21st and every year on this date take a moment and stop doing what you are doing and say a wish for peace.

The United Nations was created in 1945 with the hopes of worldwide peace. World War II left everyone desiring speech. Thus creating the United Nations to try to strive to that goal

More Uses To Vicks VapoRub It May Surprise You

Listen !!! I am here to tell you that many times the way that those that lived in the era in front of us had some great ideas Some of these ideas have went wayside for good reasons However, there are some ideas that should have stayed in existence and use

One of these has to do with an item that is often found right in the home It may not be as common as it was in yester year but it still has many great uses The item I speak of is Vicks Vapor Rub First of all my greatest memory of this product is having it spread on my chest when we had  cold Yes, it did help and I continue to use it with my children and grandchildren Perhaps, you do the same but did you also know there are many other uses for Vicks Vapor Rub??

A few of my favorite uses include:

  • It is great for the skin Stretch marks may put up a good fight but Vicks VapoRub can help you in the battle Ingredients such as eucalyptus oil, cedar leaf oil, petrolatum, camphor and turpentine oil  found in the product from Vicks will allow you to help keep your skin feeling softer and increase moisture which help fight the skin dryness In addition, vicks can help heal bruises quickly
  • Mixing a pinch of salt into a bit of Vicks then rubbing it on any area that is bruised will help bring the skin back to normal. Wait ,,, that's not all Vicks VapoRub can help heal dry skin issues as well
  • Have skin that dries and cracks easily?? Rub vicks on the area of skin. For example rubbing vicks vaporub on your dried feet then wearing cotton socks as well help to releave the dry skin leaving it softer.

what really matters

When Life seems to take you on a long journey that may be going the wrong way may this poem that I share today help you along the way

What Really Matters

by Margaret Cagle

It matters not if I ever eat
Gourmet foods and fine steak.
It matters not if I ever wear
The finest clothes they make.

It matters not if I ever drive
The best cars that they sell.
What really matters most to me is
With the Lord, is my soul well?

We can just sin away our lives
And waste them down here below,
Or we can accept Jesus as Savior.
In His grace, then we can grow.

There is great peace in knowing
That when this life here is o'er,
I will step into God's presence
On that peaceful, golden shore

Happy Birthday United States Air Force

On September 18th 1947 the United States Air Force was officially seperated from the United States Army. Prior to this time it has simply been known as the Army Air Force. For the past 72 years the Air Force has observed September 18th as a special holiday celebrated by Air Force personnel, veterans and more.

In 1907 the United States army created the Aeronautical Division service. This would later become the Aviation section during the years of 1914 - 1918. The name would later be changed to the U.S. Army Air Service in 1918 to 1926. In 1941 the title of U.S. Army AIr Force would be added. Gradually the United States Air Force would be allowed its own service title in 1947.

While most things the United States Air Force does is very serious mattered there have been a few times thru history when they have shared in a bit of fun:

  • Did you know that the U.S. airforce has tracked the movement of Santa on the eve of December 24th since 1955??
  • video games have even been in on the action when in 2010 the Air Force helped create a supercomputer when they linked more than 1,500 Playstation 3's together.
There have been several famous individuals who have served in the navy as well. These include 2 presidents (1) President Ronald Reagan and (2) George W. Bush

Living In God's Beautiful World

I have always enjoyed the season of fall. In Illinois we are blessed to be able to enjoy all 4 seasons... winter, spring , summer and fall. To me fall is a wonderous time full of changes. Perhaps it is the changing of the leaves that makes my senses spark up.

As the autumn leaves glisten in the early morning dew I enjoy simply looking around at all of God's beauty. The trees begin to shed their outer apperance and are becoming bare showing the bare bones of the bark and empty twigs and limbs. However, while the beauty abounds as it always does in God's world the cooler days are welcomed in by me as well.

The days while shorter are now cooler and allow for more time to be out in them. My grand-children love to play in the yard and the weather is perfect for this type of event. Fall gardening is where I spent alot of my personal time,, with fall mums and other plants and preparing the soil for the upcoming winter weather. IF you have never been blessed to see the beauty of the season change in my opinion you are truly missing out.

This date in history

On  this date in 1620 the ship known as the Plymouth sailed from England to America. Aboard was 102 men, women and children. The ship named after the port in Plymouth England where it departed would head off on the long journey to the New World. Perhaps some were scared but many were fascinated to see what lay beyond and eagerly waited to welcome their new freedoms.

The individuals aboard the Mayflower that day would be the first immigrants to the New Land. These immigrants would help pave the way to the millions that would follow. An agreement to settle in Virginia had been reached before the Pilgrims took voyage. For the next 66 days the men, women and children would live together before landing at Plymouth Rock on December 21st 1621.

Cinnamon Raisin Bread

I recall many times during my childhood enjoying pastries for breakfast. My dad was often the one that would share these delights with us. One of his favorites was raising bread. This recipe will allow to make up a delicious cinnamon bread for those you love as well.

breakfast will never be the same

Bread:
2% milk warmed (between 100-105 degrees F)
0.50 ounce packets dry active yeast (or two 0.25 ounce packets)
6 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 cup warm water
2 eggs
1 cup raisins

Cinnamon Swirl:
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • Pour cold milk into a measuring cup and microwave for 1 minute. Test to make sure to milk to warmed to 100-105 degrees F. (The milk should feel quite warm, but not hot.)

Add the yeast to the milk and stir to combine. Set aside for a couple minutes while you grab the rest of the ingredients to let the yeast bloom.
In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook, combine 4 cups of flour with the sugar and salt. Pour in the milk/yeast mixture and water; mix until just combined. Add the eggs and mix to combine. The dough will look WAY too wet right now. That's okay.
Add 2 more cups of flour to the dough. Mix until a ball begins to form. Add more flour 1/4 cup at a time as needed until the dough isn't crazy sticky and pulls away from the bowl.
Add in the raisins and mix until incorporated.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface.Sprinkle the dough with flour as needed and knead for 2 minutes.
Grease a large mixing bowl with a light coat of butter or non-stick cooking spray. Place the dough into the bowl and cover with a tea towel. Let the dough sit on your kitchen counter for 1 hour, or until the dough doubles in size.
On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough into an 18-inch x 9-inch rectangle.
Brush about 1/2 of the melted butter over the dough.
In a bowl, mix together the sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle 1/2 of the cinnamon sugar mixture over the dough.
Starting with the 9-inch end, roll up the dough until your reach the other side. Use your fingers to pinch the seam closed. Tuck the ends under the bottom side a bit, and place the loaf into a buttered loaf pan. Brush the top of the loaf with melted butter.
Repeat with the other half of the dough. Cover the loaves with a tea towel and let sit for 1 hour until the dough doubles in size.
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F. Bake the loaves for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the bread is a deep golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
Carefully remove from the oven and let on a wire rack.

Have Some Fun with PlayDough

Play-doh has entertained children for several decades. The invention has allowed millions of children to express their imagination and show off their creativity. Created for the classroom it has also been very popular in homes. Perhaps it will come at no surprise that Play-Doh was invented at the request of a pre-school teacher.

Joseph McVicker was asked by his sister in law to create a safe modeling clay to be used in her pre-school classroom. While Joseph worked in a chemical company the recipe he came up with for his creation was simple=== a bit of flour, water and food coloring.

Joseph McVicker of Kutol Chemicals in Cincinnati Ohio would place the new invention on the market in 1956. Since that time Play Doh has been found on the list of popular play things. Today Play-Doh is made by Hasbro Toys.

Ingredients needed to make your own playdough are:
2 cup flour (your choice)
2 Tbsp oil (your choice of cooking oil, baby oil or coconut oil)
1/2 c salt
2 Tbsp cream of tartar
1 to 1.5 c boiling water
gel food coloring works best to color
glycerine--- only a few drops are needed to offer stretch and shine

  • Mix the flour, salt, cream of tartar and oil in a large mixing bowl
  • Add food colouring TO the boiling water then into the dry ingredients
  • Stir continuously until it becomes a sticky, combined dough
  • Add the glycerine (optional)
  • Allow it to cool down then take it out of the bowl and knead it vigorously for a couple of minutes until all of the stickiness has gone. * This is the most important part of the process, so keep at it until it’s the perfect consistency!*
  • If it remains a little sticky then add a touch more flour until just right

Your Help Is Needed ---- Help Save The Ozone Layer

What can you do to help protect the ozone:
  • Take the bus. If more people take the bus then the number of cars on the road will be reduced. This will mean that smog will be reduced as one of the leading causes of smog is vehicular emissions. Taking the bus or better yet walking or riding a bike is both better for you and better for the ozone. If one of the options is not available then consider using an electric, solar or hybrid vehicle.
  •  Clean your house the ozone smart way. Using eco-friendly and natural cleaning products when doing household chores is one way you can help to prevent ozone depletion. Toxic free and cleaners made of natural ingredients is the best way
  • Another area that can be dangerous for the ozone is in the area of pesticides used to get rid of weeds. Rather than using these consider looking for other ways to remove the weeds. Going natural or weed manually or mow your garden to keep the weeds down.
  • Refuse to purchase aerosol products that use chlorofluorocarbons or CFC's. Products such as hairsprays, deodorants and household chemicals have all been known to contain CFC's. The better bet when trying to protect the ozone are the pump spray style products
