November One of the Deadliest Monhs

In the month of November 1978 Jim JOnes the leader of the peoples Temple ordered every member of the Jonestown Guyana compound to commit "revolutionary suicide" A total of 918 people would die that day, out of these about 300 were children. Until September 11, 2001 Jonestown  Massacre was the deadliest single non natural disaster in the United States.

How did it get to this point?? Where did it start and where did it all go wrong?? To answer these questions it may help to introduce Jim Jones.

Jim Jones founded the Peoples Temple in 1956. The temple included all races and integrated together. Jones had originally attempted to set his church up in Indianapolis Indiana before moving to Redwood Valley California in 1966. The communist community where all lived together in harmony and worked to make the best and dreamed one day of establishing a compound outside of the United States One where Jones himself would be in control. The United States government would have no control and the members of the church would help each others

Jim Jones would establish a location in South American country of Guyana to make his dream come true. In 1973 workers of the church started to clear the jungle. In 1977 a select few church members began to live in the new site. .Soon that was to change when Jones and several hundred church members joined the group.

Meant to be a utopia the church members were eager to reach Jonestown. They were greatly surprised when there was not enough cabins to live in nor enough beds to sleep in. All ready struggles occurred. The cabins were segregated by gender which meant married couples would not stay together. In addition to the cabins the weather in the location was not what the church members were used to and many got sick. Work days were ordered and consisted of long hard work that lasted around 12 hours a day
