To say that my children love to watch sports would be underestimating. They love to watch sports, play sports and most of all talk about sports. One of my eldest sons favorite basketball players was Shaq O'Neal.
Shaq was born March 6, 1972 in Newark New Jersey to Lucile O'Neal and Joseph Toney. O'Neal was an all state guard in high school and was offered a basketball scholarship to play seton hall. His early life was a bit troubled and O'Neal credits the Boys and Girls club of America in Newark with offering him a safe place to play and keep him off the streets. With O'Neals step father in the military he would travel with the family to Germany and Texas.
Born Shaquille Rashaun O'Neal stands 7 foot 1 inch tall and weighed 325 lbs. To say he is a big man is again underestimating. One of the biggest players in the NBA he played for six teams through out his 19 years as a pro. Prior to professional ball he attended Louisianna State University. He was number one pick in the 1992 draft chosen by the Orlando Magic. Playing center he led his league winning rookie of the year. He would later become part of the Los Angeles Lakers team and be part of the championship team three years in a row. Again he would change team and become part of the Miami Heat leading the team to another championship game. O'Neal would also play for the Phoenix Suns, Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics.
Through his career he would earn the rookie of the year award, 15 all star game selections, three all star game MVP awards, three finals MVP awards, two scoring titles, 14 all NBA team selections and three NBA all defensive team selections.
Shaq has also released four rap albums, appeared in numerous films and starred in his own reality show. He has a wife and four children
