Importance of Reading To a Child & Giveaway from Barefoot Books

One of my favorite things to do with my children when they were little and my grandchildren now is to cuddle up with them under a warm blanket and read. We have read about princess and pirates and ghost and animals and the list goes on and on. Reading is not only a great way to bond but to also to set up a want to learning from a very young age. The U.S. department of Education website shares this list of reasons why Reading Aloud to Children is Important:
Have you ever seen a young child carry a book around and pretend as if they are reading. This is often very cute but it also a very important step in childhood. Whether they currently know the letters and words now or even if they know which way the book should be held right side up or upside down the thing that is important is that they recognize that there are letters that make sounds that make words inside the treasure of a book. Therefore the lessons of learning to read has begun and the next step is there for the taking. Reading to a child can introduce them to words they may not hear in every day life, to worlds and systems that they may have never seen and reading can allow their imaginations to soar to places we may never know ourselves. Allowing a child to see you enjoying a good book, reading with enthusiasm to them will allow them to see how very cool reading is.

Barefoot Books wants to offer your child a way to explore, imagine, create, and connect to what is in their world. Through the books that are offered through Barefoot Books children can explore different cultures, the planet, and even all about their selves. The books offer a chance for children to use their imagination and make believe for just a moment that they are somewhere other than where they are. It is no surprise to me that Barefoot Books was started by two mothers who simply wanted their children to have books that would feed their imagination. We all want the best for our children and books to me sometimes offer things in life that we may not otherwise have. From the company started by a couple of mothers who wanted to enrich their children's lives has grown a company that is now a world wide community of writers, artist, storytellers, musicians who have all provided timeless stories and captivating art that can help children grow into happy engaged members of global society while instilling a respect for diversity and a love of the planet. Today, we are a world-wide community of writers, artists, storytellers, musicians, and others who are committed to providing timeless stories and captivating art that can help children become happy, engaged members of a global society

I was very happy when I received a couple of books from Barefoot Books for my little Princess and one of Annie's Home readers will be able to choose a book from the many at Barefoot Books as well. To enter this giveaway share with me your favorite childrens book title.

  1. My all-time favorite children's book is The Monster at the End of the Book. The whole book is about Grover trying to stop the reader from getting to the end, only to find out he is the "monster" at the end. I remember my family reading it in funny voices, and it was just hilarious.
    Thanks for offering the giveaway!

  23. My favorite children's book is Richard Scarry's Best Storybook Ever. It has EVERYTHING in it! Another that I think is very good to help kids make the connection between words and their use is another Richard Scarry book, The Best Word Book Ever. Every single picture has words to describe the objects. My two-year-old feels very proud of himself when he can point to a word and say what it is. Time will take care of his making the correlation bewteen the words and their meanings. Won't he be extra-proud when he figures that out?!

  44. My favorites were any I could get my hands on.

My son enjoyed any book about animals. I mostly read little golden books to him. He had all the classics and then some. Plus, collection of Disney books. (He'll be 21 this year so hard to quote titles other than classics: Dumbo, Bambi, Children's Bible, Farm Animals...) He didn't have a particular request.
