Be Safe when taking Herbal and Prescription Medicine

Many individuals suffer with anxiety. In order to battle against anxiety one or more prescription drugs are taken. One thing that many say when they start the medication is that they do not like how it makes them feel. This may be true as just like a diabetic who has lived with a high sugar and then takes medication to reduce it struggles an individual that reduces anxiety with medication will struggl as well.

If you find that medication is not the right treatment you may want to get more information on one or more of these herbal alternatives. The most important thing is that you you follow your doctors advice.

Ginkgo biloba dates back to an ancient time and has been known to help treat anxiety. Ginkgo leavs have been used in traditional Chnese medicine for thousands of years. While Ginkgo is primarily a memory enhancer it also can help reduce the release of stress hormone cortisol helping to reduce anxiety and stress. Ginkgo has also been shown to help raise levels of neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine which are needed for positive mood.

Ask your doctor before adding Ginkgo to your daily routine diet. Ginkgo has blood thinning properties and should not be used if taking anticoagulant (blood thinning) medications, aspirin, plavix, persantine, heparin, ticlopidine or warfarin.

Ginseng is another natural plant that is harvested for medicinal purposes. It has been shown to help improve mood and to reduce stress by improving clamness and mental arithmetic. Ginsent stimulates brain cells and improves concentration and cognitive abilities. Tests performed using ginseng also showed that it can help individuals with alzheimers and ADHD but more tests are needed.

Like all drugs first talk to your physician before adding ginseng to your diet If you are taking any heart or blood pressure medicines, medicine to controll blood sugar such as insulin or glyburide, warfarin or coumadin, aspirin ibuprofen, naproxen, ketoprofen, indomethacin do not take ginsent.

As you can see being aware of what we are taking both prescription and herbal is very important. We need to make others aware of the dangers that may be out there by adding the two without talking to a doctor first.
