Barbershop Music

Barbershop vocal harmony started around the 1930s and continues today. It is a style of singing cappella close harmony. In other words this style of music is unaccompanied vocal music. There are four cord melody note in  textured movement. The lead who sings melody, tenor just above melody, bass lowest and tenor or baritone that is just below lead.

Often barbershop music is performed by a quartet and is known as barbershop quartet. A chorus (choir) may also perform barbershop music. A all women barbershop quartet may also be called a Sweet Adelines quartets.
