Be Aware::: Lightning Storms are Dangerous

The old adage of summer storms is "when thunder roars, go indoors" The reason is because if there is thunder then you are more than likely within striking distance of the storm. I know it is awfully tempting to finish that outside event before retreating inside but there are many that have delayed their own retreat and never lived to regret it. Sadly, lightning has led to many deaths and injuries in the United States.

No one wants to be caught in the rain and even more than that no one should be caught out in a lightning storm. If you are attending an outside event make sure you have a plan if thunderstorms unexpectedly pop up. Make sure that you keep your ear and eye out for bad weather approaching. If you are caught in the thunder and lightning storm then head inside of a building or a hard topped vehicle. However keep in mind that rain shelters, small sheds, and open vehicles are not safe places to be in a storm.

If you are inside during a lightning storm and hopefully you are be careful that you don't use a land line phone or plug anything into an electrical outlet. You should also stay away from the doors and windows as well. Understanding the dangers of lightning storms can help prevent accidents from happening In addition, waiting until the storm has passed before heading back outside is very important.
