Keeping on the Reading Track

As we all know it is important to build a good foundation of education for our children. One of the elements of this foundation of learning is reading. Many other subjects depend on reading. In fact many elements of life depends on being able to read.

If students are struggling in reading it is best to I.D. early. I had a child that faked through school acting as if she could read until she reached 3rd grade. Yes, she did quite well pretending but she was failing in education while getting decent grades. It took a bit for her to catch up, she did and I was very proud of her. However, it is best to be able to catch struggling readers early before they get to far behind.

Whether student sare not gaining the knowledge of the reading concept when introduced or they are forgetting what they learn or they simply are not applying it to what they are doing. Talking to the educator should help and you can help as well. Here are few ideas that you can help your child read better Being successful in reading they must have phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. .

  • Books are not the only thing that can be read. Include in reading material magazines, comics or websites. The more they read the better at reading they get
  • Ask the teacher for extra work that i at the student's developmental level
  • keep the excitement going don't make reading a chore
  • Include real world logistics in reading so children realize it is more than just a school subject. This can be done by allowing the child to write a letter to someone special or to someone they like as their favorite musician or star.
