Go Off The Normal Path

This past weekend we had the time to go off the path and take a different route. This led us to being able to enjoy a free fairy ride and some open fresh air. The other route would have taken us over a bridge and on the path that is most often traveled. My tip is whenever possible take a moment and go off the regular path .

Ghost of a Treat

White Bread (1 slice per ghost)

Whipped cream cheese

Currants

For each, toast a slice of white bread and then cut a ghost shape from it. You can do this freehand using a knife, or you can use a gingerbread-girl cookie cutter. When the cutouts have cooled, spread on a generous coating of whipped cream cheese. For eyes and mouths, add currants.

Stuffed Biscuit Cups

1 can Grands Homestyle Reduced Fat Golden Wheat Biscuits

1 pkg cream cheese, softened

1 c. finely chopped broccoli

3-4 slices cooked bacon, crumbled (I use turkey bacon)

1/2 lb turkey burger, cooked

1 tsp. worceshtershire sauce

shredded cheddar cheese

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Press biscuits into lightly greased muffin cups. In a large skillet, cook bacon strips to desired crispiness. Let cool, then tear into crumbles. In the same skillet cook the ground turkey burger until brown. In a medium bowl, beat cream cheese until well blended with no lumps. Stir in chopped broccoli, bacon crumbles, meat, and Worcestershire sauce. Drop by tablespoon into each biscuit cup. Top with shredded cheese and bake for 8-10 minutes or until biscuits are golden. You will have excess filling....but don't you worry, it's delicious just by itself

Morning Music Rocks When Was You Born?

The Partridge Family Opening Theme Song. In the pilot episode this group of musical siblings convinces their mother to help them out by singing with them as they record a pop song in their garage. Through the efforts of the 10-year-old son Danny, they find a manager who helps make the song a Top-40 hit. After some more convincing, Mom finally agrees that the family can go on tour. They acquire an old school bus, paint it and depart to Las Vegas for their first live gig at Caesars Palace.

Each subsequent episode features the band performing in various locations and types of venues. The shows would often contrast their suburban life with the adventures of a show-biz family "on the road". After the first season the show focused more on the "at home" themes and less on their touring. The series originally ran from September 25, 1970 until August 31, 1974 on the ABC television network, as part of the Friday night lineup following The Brady Bunch. It had a few subsequent runs in syndication.

Monday Music moves me them this week is sharing a song from the year you were born. I was very lucky because there were many great songs of that year and decade. I decided to share this song because while i was born in 1970 I can remember watching this show not at its original airing time but when I was a teen ager in re-runs right after school.

Corn Cob Painting

Where I live it is nearly time for farmers to head into the fields to reap the rewards of their harvest. A fun thing to do this time of year is to try out corn cob printing with your toddler. I can remember walking the freshly combined fields and finding left over pieces of corn. The dried corn on the cob offers a texture that can easily be used for creating a painting print. Perhaps on a fall day when the weather is not so grand you will want to try this fun craft.

•paper plates (for paint)

•ears of corn (some stripped of kernels, some with kernels)

•tempera paint

•paper (large sheets if available)

Eat some corn a day or so before! (or simply head out to the field and get a few cobs)  Cover a table with newspaper, and place paper on top. Dip corn cobs in paint, roller-style, and roll along the paper in any direction. Use different colors for different effects. Compare prints made by cobs with and without kernels
