Trick or Treat Safety

Halloween Safety Tips

Carry a flashlight

Wear something with a reflector on it - you can even find reflector tape and paint at your local home improvement store or order it directly from Halloween Scream.com.

Go out before dark-especially for little ones. The big kids tend to flood the streets later at night making it hard for little ones to trick or treat.

Never go into a strangers house, even if they ask you to come in while they go and get some candy.

Throw away all homemade or unwrapped treats. I know some people work hard on making great home made treats, Remember most cases of kids finding razor blades in their candy or popcorn ball is an urban legend. but in this day and age its not worth the risk!

When walking down the street, have the adult walk closest to the road, and the children closest to the houses.

Do not run ahead of the adults-its very easy for children to get carried away and accidentally run into the road.

Do not pet strange animals while trick or treating. Though you really shouldn't ever pet someone's animal with out being invited to do so, you especially shouldn't during trick or treating where your costume or other costumes may be irritating or confusing to the animal.

Do not eat candy as you go.

Always be nice, even when people do not have any candy to give out.

Do not knock on doors where the lights are off.

Watch where you step!

Have a plan before you start. If you are walking in an unfamiliar neighborhood, it is easy to get lost.

When you approach a treat giving house, make sure to yell "Trick or Treat!" very loudly!

When you get home, check all of the candy before allowing children to eat any of it.

You are looking for:

* old worn wrappers
* torn wrappers (even with the smallest hole)
* home made treats
* unwrapped treats
* toys with small parts that may be a chocking hazard
* money (change)
* fruit
* any candy that looks like it may have been tampered with.
* for small children, remove any hard candies. They tend to become slick once in the mouth and can quickly become a choking hazard.
* lickable stamps
* glass or sharp objects

If you find any of the above mentioned items, its best to discard them-trust me, there will still be plenty of treats to go around afterwards!!

Have a safe and Fun Halloween-and take lots of pictures!

Brugo mug review and giveaway

As the weather gets cooler if you are like me you will be drinking more hot tea or coffee. I truly do enjoy a good cup of coffee on a cool rainy day. The only problem is that it often gets cold before I have it 1/2 gone because when I first get it is too hot to drink. Brugo mug has developed a cup that will put a halt to that problem. The Brugo mug allows only the hot drink to get cooled one sip at a time. This allows the remaining cup to stay hot with the best aromatic flavoring. Take a look at the chart below which demonstrates the difference between using Brugo mug and not using it.

Spero Pavlopoulos the invented the Brugo mug after having a morning that he did not want to repeat. While drinking a hot cup of coffee Spero removed the lid to cool it softly but the cup slipped and the coffee spilled all over his clothes and new car. Because of that event Spero declared a battle to find the end of the problem that afflicted many coffee drinkers. In the end Spero created the Brugo mug.
I have had my own incident of a hot drink getting spilled in car causing a car wreck. My husband the coffee drinker took a large cup with him in the car. We had my one year old daughter that I was trying to watch as well as that hot cup of coffee which I was to hold so that it did not spill. My husband started driving not far out of the driveway and hit a bump that large coffee splashed onto me I jumped made the baby upset, accidentally dropped that cup hubby so caught up with action hit the fence just outside of the drive. With the Brugo mug this would not have happened. Don't let a story like that happen to you. Use the Brugo mug and save yourself from some trouble.

Buy the super sleek Brugo mug on their website located at http://www.brugomug.com/get_brugo.html

Win: One of Annies Home readers has the chance to win a Brugo mug of their own

Thankful Thursday

There are many things in my life that I am thankful for. I am thankful for the fact that my children know that my house is a place where they can show up at any time without alerts and I will take care of them. I loved the recent visit that my daughter came to visit bringing her brother who was away in college and her daughter. WE had a wonderful visit.

I am thankful for all the church friends and for the wonderful opportunity we are working together on this week. Judgement house that is a drama that lends itself to telling the story of what might happen at the end of ones life. If you would like to join in prayer for us that would be great. Last night we had several different prayer request and 2 salvation

I am thankful for a wonderful husband that often cares for me more than I care for myself. After being married for 20+ years he has learned that I am a go getter and when on a mission go til I fall. I am not sure why I work that way I just do. He is always the one there saying medicine, drink, sleep taking care of me. For that I love and thank him. I also thank God for pairing us together.

I am thankful for my children as always and the manner in which I watch them grow in maturity constantly. Oh the things they do and the pride I take in them. They have gained the respect of many of their peers, and elders. I know that my father would be proud of them if he were still alive to see how they grew up.

What are you thankful for? Share your blessings at the blog Spiritually Unequeal

Ice Packs homemade

With my children involved in sports, their love to hike and all around ability to get out and about ice packs are a necessity. That is why today I decided to share with you a great recipe for Ice Pack

Ice Pack

1 cup rubbing alcohol

3 cups water

Mix the two together in a gallon size ziploc. Freeze and while the ice pack will be ice cold the alcohol will allow the liquid to smush up and move aroun. Not freezing solid helps to keep the ice pack useable.

The next best thing to this is a bag of frozen peas. you can break the peas apart and then it will conform to where you need it to.

I am sharing this recipe on the blog We Are That Family

Watery Wednesday

This is a picture that I took while we visited the rocks the other day. They say these rocks were made in early primitive times when the ice that coverd the world melted. I am not for sure how these rocks were formed Ijust found it interesting in this rocks that were formed by God no matter how contained a pool of water.

Two Blue Peas review and giveaway

Two Blue Peas is more than a boutique it is a story of a couple of great friends who turned their love of family, fashion and the desire to hang out together into a wonderful boutique on the web. After working together for years the two friends decided it was time to branch out on their own. The duo named the boutique two blue peas. Knowing that they are not ordinary nor are the products that they would sell or the consumers who would purchase them they used the word blue rather than the normal green.

Two Blue Peas carry everything in their boutique from clothing to bed and bath to mealtime needs to gear and nursery. You can say they are an all around boutique.
cute little diaper covers in many style and colors are available. Two Blue Peas also carries lots of cute clothes for both boys and girls.

These super cute monkey baby washcloth set are so adorable and I can just imagine all the fun that could be had with them. Two Blue Peas sells many adorable bath toys and hooded towels.

The bloom nano highchair is on my want list for my little princess. The highchair I have here when she comes for a visit is one that has been through many children. Not only does Two Blue Peas sell highchairs but also teethers, play food, dishes, burp cloths and bibs.

Random Thought Tuesday

randomtuesday src="http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb9/superkeely/randomtuesday.jpg" width=200>Well with Halloween coming, fall in the air, business at church and in the community my daughter has started talking about Thanksgiving. I reckon I should say that I am thankful for the family I have but I keep hollering back at my daughter Thanksgiving is still a month away. After I get past this week we can start picking up things and getting ready for Thanksgiving. I do love having friends and family over and visiting. Always promises to be a great time. Has anyone else started thinking about Thanksgiving?

My family has been working very hard to do our part at Judgement House. Judgement House is a church wide activity that we try to share the story of what it would be like to die without Christ. The rest of this week will be quite crazy and busy with all the goings on. What are you doing for Halloween? I am Christian but do still think we can have lots of fun from trick or treating to Halloween parties. We often find our selves defending our thoughts on Halloween but the truth is my grandmothers always had trick or treat candy for us but that did not mean they turned into witches for the day and were not as religious as they always were. Halloween is a grand way to show our light of Christs love toward others.

What are your random thoughts? Share them on The Un Mom

Henoch-Schönlein purpura (HSP)

What I learned this week is a weekly meme where we share what we learned and is hosted by Musings Of A Housewife.
Henoch-Schönlein purpura (HSP)

Recently my nephew woke up and had lil purple bruises all over him. Being a boy everyone just thought that he had played a bit hard. It was not until these purple (bruise like) spots started to multiply and the school nurse called my sister in law. She at once made him a doctor and learned that the purple bruise like marks were caused by a disorder known as HSP.

HSP causes inflimation in the small blood vessels in the skin. Luckily we have not noticed the worse of problems such as blood in kidneys or bowels. The purplish colored bruise rash is caused when the blood vessels bleed into the skin the rash is known as purpura. HSP often occurs in ages 2 to 11 years of age. HSP may be triggered by a bacterial or viral infection but is not contagious. There is no known cure or how to prevention yet known. This is just something that we will have to keep our eyes on and learn all we can but this what we learned about in my house this week.

Smile Squad

Halloween has a notorious bad reputation of being bad for kids teeth. That is why I am so happy that Delta Dental has fought back creating a Smile Squad. The Smile Squad has been designed to gain kids attention while they learn about caring for their teeth. The Smile Squad is composed of a group of hero's who not only use good habits their selves but also work together using these good habits and smart actions to destroy the bad "Captain Cavity" and his band of "Mouth marauders as they seek to destroy kids' oral health.

The website is meant to both allow the child to be entertained and be educated about good oral care. Your child can meet and get to know both the villains and the hero's better. Allowing them to see what they both eat and that the healthier version allows the hero to overcome the bad guy. Your child can play the toothpaste shooter game or the card game that is available on the website. In addition your child may want to sign up to be part of the Smile Squad helping to promote care of your child's teeth. There is lots of fun and activities to be found on the Delta site.

Delta Dental is the nations largest dental benefits carrier and wants to help you care for your child's attention. Hopefully by introducing them to a bit of fun in the area of dental care your child will want to take better care of their teeth. Some other fun tips to get your child to caring for his teeth are:

  • Trade places: Tired of prying your way in whenever it's time to brush those little teeth? Why not reverse roles and let the child brush your teeth? It’s fun for them and shows them the right way to brush

  • Take turns: Set a timer and have the child brush their teeth for 30 seconds. Then you brush their teeth for 30 seconds. Repeat this at least twice

  • Call in reinforcements: If children stubbornly neglect to brush or floss, maybe it's time to change the messenger. Call the dental office before the next checkup and let them know what's going on. The same motivational message might be heeded if it comes from a third party.

Perhaps with the hero's fighting on your side and a few of the crafty tricks you will be able to win the battle of good oral health with your child.

Hugg A Planet review

Do you home school or just like to have educational items in your child's or your room? Well Peace Toys have created a wonderful fun product known as Hugg A Planet. The Hugg A Planet pillows are soft so they can be rested on, played with or used to study. Home school children or those in regular classroom can find the Hugg A Planet pillows a great treat as well. The earth pillow lays out the geographical regions of the world. The earth pillow is a globe that is softer and can be manipulated in play allowing your child to learn geographical regions as well as the importance of taking care of the earth.

Princess my granddaughter had a great time playing with the hugg a planet products. It was easy for her to throw and have fun with . My nephews 4 and 5 wanted more information though. While they enjoyed tossing the pillow they actually wanted to know why the marking were on the pillow. What a great way to explore with your child and share with them about the planets both earth and others. For older children the Hugg A Planet pillow can be used when reading, listening or hearing about a place in the world. How fun it would be to find the region on the pillow and share with all. For the high schooler or college kid just think about the study opportunities as well as the social side of the fun Hugg A Planet pillows.

A fun idea and one that Hugg A Plannet offers is to have the pillow embroidered with a message to the receiver. I think for my lil Princess I would have "I think the world of you" added. What would you use on your pillow?

Buy: you can purchase your own Hugg A Planet products at their website located at

Halloween super cute easy to make treat container

Parenting magazine shared this wonderful treat container. The lovely thing is I believe it would be super easy to make. You simply take 2 paper plates and staple them together. you then cut the space out where the ears would go and use construction paper or felt to decorate the cats face.

Racheal Ray's : French Toast Muffin Cups

This recipe will be great for this fall. Oh how delicious. I was watching Racheal Ray this morning if you are not aware she is having a show dedicated to tips of all kinds
Racheal Ray's French Toast Muffin Cups

•Nonstick cooking spray
•3 eggs
•1 tablespoon milk
•2 teaspoons cinnamon
•Dash of vanilla extract (optional)
•Dash of fresh nutmeg (optional)
•8 slices white or wheat sandwich bread
•1 pint fresh berries, such as strawberries, blueberries, blackberries or raspberries
•Whipped cream
PreparationPre-heat the oven to 375ÂşF.

Spray the inside of each cup of a 6-cup muffin tin with nonstick cooking spray and set aside.

In a medium size mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cinnamon, vanilla and nutmeg. Cut slits in each slice of bread from the middle of the slice to each corner – this will make it easier to put the slices in the muffin cups without tearing.

Dip each slice of bread in the egg mixture, then lightly press them into the cups of the muffin tin, overlapping the pieces where you cut the slits to make them fit into the cup without tearing.

Bake the French toast cups for 12-14 minutes, until they're light golden brown.

Allow the cups to cool slightly in the muffin tin before removing them. To serve, arrange the cups on a platter and fill each one with fresh fruit and top with whipped cream.

Hallowee Recipe: Graveyard Pudding

GraveYard Pudding

4 ounces bittersweet chocolate, chopped
4 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into bits and softened
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 large egg yolks
1 cup sugar
6 tablespoons cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 1/2 cups milk
3/4 cup cold heavy cream
2 teaspoons confectioners' sugar
1 (16-ounce) package chocolate sandwich cookies, crushed
Gummy worms, garnish
Directions
In the top of a double-boiler, or in a metal bowl set over a pot of barely simmering water, melt the bittersweet and unsweetened chocolates, stirring, until smooth. Add butter and vanilla and stir to incorporate. Remove from the heat.

In a bowl, beat the egg yolks. In a medium, heavy saucepan, whisk together the sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Add the milk in a stream, whisking constantly. Bring the mixture to a boil, whisking constantly to keep lumps from forming. Remove from the heat.

Add 1 cup of the hot milk mixture to the yolks and whisk until smooth. Add the beaten yolk mixture to the saucepan with the hot milk and bring to a simmer over medium-low heat. Simmer, whisking constantly, until thick and smooth, about 3 minutes. Remove from the heat and whisk in the melted chocolate mixture. Transfer to a large bowl. Cover with plastic wrap, pressing down on the surface to prevent a skin from forming, and refrigerate to cool.

In a medium bowl, whip the cream until soft peaks start to form. Add the confectioners' sugar and continue beating until stiff peaks start to form. Fold half of the whipped cream and most of the crushed cookies into the cooled pudding mixture. Spoon into a 9-inch square glass baking dish. Sprinkle with the remaining cookies.

Spoon the remaining whipped cream in blobs on the top for "ghosts" and garnish with gummy worms, slightly poking them down into the surface. Serve immediately, or refrigerate until ready to serve.

I borrowed this recipe from the food network website but let me tell you it is so fun and easy to make with kids.

Inspirational Week

JUDGEMENT HOUSE

I reckon you could say my inspiration this week is for others. Oh you should have seen us working so hard on creating a dramatic scene at our church known as Judgement house. We work super hard and truly love to share the message with others. This year is our 10th year and I am more involved than any other year. I am not sure how this happened I just know it did. The theme is a airplane crash where people parish. You will have to recognize that there are those that believe and those that do not. Just in life there is that spirit of free will. The drama will share a message through actions that has often been told but never held up. Wednesday through Saturday the play will go on. That is why this is not only my inspiration for today but for the entire week. What is your inspiration this week? Share it at the blog maternal spark
