One in every three women and one in every five men over the age 50 will experience fractures because of osteoporosis. Extreme pain, long term disability are often the result of Osteoporosis. Did you know that this disease can also be life threatening. Medical has had vast advances to find help for this disease the problem is that only a small minority will ever get treatment. World osteoporosis day is being observed today as it will and has been observed on October 20th since 1996. This day is to help bring awareness to Osteoporosis and what you can personally do to help keep your bones healthy.
Osteoporosis is a bone disease that occurs when the body loses too much bone, makes to little bone or both. Bones will become weak and may break from a fall or even from sneezing if the disease is serious. Osteoporosis means "porous bone" Healthy bone looks like a honeycomb but the holes and spaces in the honeycomb are much larger when osteoporosis is present. Bones lose their density or mass and contain abnormal tissue structure. Individuals 50 or older who break a bone should have a bone density test ran.
Regular exercise and a healthy diet with nutrients calcium , protein and vitamin D included in the diet will help you on the right path to keep your bones healthy. Not being involved with negative life styles such as smoking and excessive drinking will also help greatly. There are test your doctor can run to check your bone health bring this to your doctors attention and see if you should have the test ran.

DeleteI was not a huge milk drinker when I was a kid. But now that I'm older, I try to drink milk on a regular basis out of fear of osteoporosis. Better safe than sorry, right? :)
