Tropicana Juicy Rewards : using first reward points

Tonight I used my first reward points. How great it feels I used 4 points to save $10 off $60 on shoes. Yes, something that we always need. My only tip is that you should not get to crazy on the button and read all the directions as they will tell you whether to visit the site, print coupon out or exactly what to do. My kids will be happy as summer is coming which means baseball and we can save money thanks to Tropicana Juicy Rewards.

I wrote this review while participating in the Tropicana Juicy Insiders Ambassador program by Mom Central on behalf of Tropicana. I received 12 free Juicy Rewards points and a $50 Visa gift card to use in redemption of the points and to facilitate my review

Sixpence and Sunshine review and giveaway

I love finding great and stylish clothes for my princess. When I do find great looks I want to share them with you my readers (my friends). Well Sixpence & Sunshine to me brings back that old fashioned stylish comfort with a great look. Sixpence and Sunshine Boutique Clothing for Children offers designs are beautiful and fun clothes that everyone mom and child will love. The dress we received would be perfect for church, play, a great summer dress that I can see outside playing in. In the summer we love to offer clothing that has air to breathe and the little dress we received does just that.

Sixpence & Sunshine headquarters are located in Princeton New Jersey, USA. But while the designing and planning takes place there the fabrics that are selected for quality and appearance are found all over the world. The Victorian flare in the dress that we received was super cute and reminded us of the old style of wear. We loved it and the color of the blue (teal?) looked super cute as well.

Another dress that I love is the one above it is the Elizabeth reversible dress. It is super cute and one side of the dress has the purplish color and the reverse side has the blueish color. It is like two dresses in one. It would be a perfect dress for summer. The Sixpence and Sunshine Boutique has given me the opportunity to host this wonderful giveaway where one lucky Annie's Home reader will win a reversible dress of their own.

Inspired by Easter : Great ways to decorate eggs

This week my thoughts are on Easter and great ways to decorate for other great ideas and to see what others are inspired by visit the Inspired Room

•Tye Dyed Eggs. Try wrapping your egg with different sizes of rubber bands and dipping in the first color of dye.
•Allow egg to dry and remove rubber bands to dip in another color. Gives eggs a neat effect

Crayons
Boiled eggs cooled and dried
Neon food coloring and white vinegar (optional)

Place a double folded kitchen towel and place it on the table underneath child's hands so if the egg slips out it will have a soft cushion to land on. Use crayons to draw designs on the egg. (See photo.) Have kids hold the egg gently so they do not crack the shell. (See photo.)
This step is optional but adds a fun effect. If you like, mix 1 Tbsp of white vinegar into a coffee mug of water (filled ¾ full) then add several drops of food coloring. Dip the crayon colored egg into the dye and let sit for about a minute. Remove and let dry. The dye makes the crayon look brighter, especially if you use neon food coloring! (See photo.)

This week in 7 quick takes friday

Wow!!! This week went fast and somehow it is all ready Friday. I can not hardly believe it but here my 7 quick takes :
  1. My daughter has started spending more time with her uncle and aunt. The thing is she has also started to date a boy that frequents their house. I realize that she is growing up way beyond the age to have to listen and obey but she also still realizes we have opinions and she does listen to them. She is having lots of fun at this stage in her life and here is a pic of some fun she is having.
  2. We celebrated St. Patrick's day and had a bit of fun with it. Here is a great recipe you may consider using next year your self.
  3. This week we experienced an outage of phone and Internet when a crew took out the main line. In total 5 counties were out of phone and Internet. You can read about it here
  4. This week I also blogged one of my favorite and my kids favorites songs. The song Temporary Home holds a lot of meaning for us. We know that this is only our temporary home and our final home will be with our Lord in heaven. You can hear the song here
  5. My son had a couple of big events in his life (1) drivers license and (2) passport. We were discussing organ donating and the funny thing was what he was thinking. He remembered that our bodies are only for here on earth and when we reach our destination in heaven we will receive a new one. Is that not great that one day no more pain or troubles and only time for praise and love
  6. The youth hosted a meat sale fundraiser to raise money to go on a mission trip this summer. They made their goal and now the planning stage begins. How super cool. My son looks super forward to it. I will stay behind this time to pray for them as they make their way to their destination to host a block party.
  7. We were getting senior baby pictures in order this week and I could not believe how fast my kids mature. I guess we don't realize while we live life how far our kids actually come. I thank God for all he has done for me and my family

What are your highlights of the week? Share them here.

Easter Egg Cake

Easter egg Cake

your favorite box cake, any flavor
yellow and green food coloring
white icing (recipe below)
green, orange, yellow, and pink decorator gel
white decorator frosting
decorating tip
gumdrops
silver non pareils

Prepare cake mix as directed. Pour half the prepared batter into round cake pan and bake as directed on box. Allow to cool thoroughly before frosting and decorating. Prepare the white icing by following the recipe below. When finished, remove 3/4 cup of the frosting to a seperate bowl. Add a two drops of green food coloring to the small bowl and stir until thoroughly mixed. Add three drops of yellow food coloring to the large bowl of white frosting, stir thoroughly.

White Buttercream Icing

16-ounce package confectioners sugar
6 tbsp butter or margarine, softened
3 to 4 tbsp milk
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/8 tsp salt

In a medium bowl, with mixer at medium-low speed, beat all ingredients until the icing is smooth and of easy spreading consistency. Add a few drops of red food coloring, 3 for light pink, 6 or so for dark pink. Prep When cake is COMPLETELY cooled, cut a straight line, off center, down the cake so that you are removing a rectangular piece from the center of the circle. Place rectangle at the bottom of your cake platter, position remaining half circles together to form oval. Place above the rectangle as if sitting on it.

Decorate
Using the green frosting, carefully frost the rectangle. using the yellow frosting, completely cover the "egg". Smoot frosting with a flat cake spreader or a smooth butter knife.

To decorate the cake, simply pipe designs in zig zags, swirls and lines across the cake with decorator gel and decorator frosting. Use non pareils to dot across the cake's surface. Use decorator gels and dot in alternating colors along the decorator frosting piping. Cut the ends off of gumdrops to decorate the top of the cake. Line gumdrops along the bottom of the green "grass".

You can decorate the egg however you please. use a different color for the frosting if you prefer. Creativity is the key

Old Fashioned Easter Eggs using Natural Dyes

I love to color eggs for Easter. Here is a great way to color Easter eggs using natural dyes

Put raw, white-shelled, organically-raised eggs in a single layer in a pan. Cover with cold water.. In a bowl add a little more than a teaspoon of white vinegar. Add the natural dyestuff for the color you want your eggs to be. (The more eggs you are dying at a time, the more dye you will need to use, and the more dye you use, the darker the color will be.) Bring water to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes. Quickly check the eggs for color by removing them from the dye liquid with a slotted spoon.

If the color is as desired, pour off the hot dye liquid and rinse the eggs immediately in cold water to stop the eggs from cooking. Continue to change the water until it stays cool in the pot because the eggs are no longer releasing heat. Drain and allow eggs to cool in the refrigerator. If you wish a deeper color, strain the hot dye liquid into a container, then rinse the eggs immediately in cold water to stop them from cooking. Continue to change the water until it stays cool in the pot because the eggs are no longer releasing heat. Drain the last of the cold water, then cover the eggs with the strained dye liquid. Add more water if necessary so that the eggs are completely covered. Put into the refrigerator immediately and keep eggs in the refrigerator until the desired shade is achieved. Overnight is good. Longer than about twelve hours some of the colors just get muddier instead of deeper, and the lighter shades are more vibrant

Red - Pink -- lots of red onion skins, cranberry juice, or frozen raspberries.

Orange -- Yellow onion skins

Brown -- Red beet skins or grape juice (produces a beautiful sparkling tan), coffee.

Yellow -- Saffron, tumeric or cumin, orange or lemon peels, or celery seed.

Green -- spinach, or carrot tops and peels from Yellow Delicious apples for a yellow-green.

Blue -- Red cabbage leaves make the most incredible robin's-egg blue.

Deep Purple -- Red wine makes a beautiful burgundy color

Tips for successful results:

* Use filtered or distilled water instead of tap water that will work against the dye
* For deeper colors, use more dyestuff or let the eggs soak longer.
* For even coverage, cook eggs in a pot large enough to hold enough water and dyestuff to completely cover the eggs, even after some of the liquid has evaporated during the 15 minute of boiling.
* Again, for even coverage, if you continue to soak the eggs in the refrigerator after cooking, make sure the eggs are completely covered with the dye liquid.
* Blot the eggs dry or allow them to air dry, as for some colors the dye will rub off while still wet.
* Make sure eggs of different colors are completely dry before piling them up in a bowl together, as wet dye from one egg can transfer to another.

Thousand Word Thursday

Kids In The Kitchen : Easter Recipe

Easter Nest Cupcakes with Speckled Easter Eggs

• 1 or 2 boxes Plain white cake mix
• Ready made vanilla icing
• 1 cup Shredded coconut
• Green food coloring
• Food coloring (pastel colors)
• Easter muffin liners (optional)
• Jelly beans or M&M speckled Easter
eggs(optional)
• String licorice (optional)

Make up a batch (or two!!) of cupcakes; plain white cake mix is fine. Take a tub of ready-made vanilla icing and divide into 4 or 5 parts. Leave one part white, and color the other icing potions in easter-like pastel colors (pink, yellow, peach, lavender, etc) Ice the cup cakes with various colors. Put about a cup of shredded coconut into a small bowl. Add a few drops of green food coloring until a nice spring grass-like green color is obtained for the coconut. Sprinkle in a little bit of icing sugar
and a few drops of water. (This will give the coconut mixture a 'stickiness' to it so it will set well on
top of the cupcakes, and hold the mini-eggs).
5. Drop a teaspoonful or so of grass mixture onto each cupcake. Top each 'grass nest' with 2-3 M&M speckled
Easter eggs (available in most grocery shops in the lead-up to Easter) or jelly beans.
6. Last of all take some string licorce to make handle of basket (insert into cupcake to form handle) they
are colorful, fun and the kids love them!
7. Place in fridge which will allow the eggs to sit firmly into the nests.
8. Arrange on a platter covered in Easter basket 'hay'.
The recipe is located on DLTK's Recipes we love this website for bible stories, crafts and recipes

Thankful Thursday

Today I am thankful for many things none more than the fact that I know that my Lord loves me. I am thankful that my son has decided to go on a mission trip and looks so forward to it. I am thankful that the fund raiser the youth at church put together was so great. I am thankful that my children feel that their church is their hangout place, their place to meet friends and a place they belong. I am thankful as graduation draws closer that my children look forward to what comes next and are all ready making plans. I am thankful that my daughter is having bonding time with her aunt and uncle and that she is so mature and ready to move on in life. I so love the fact that she is ready for that next step in life. I pray that she will find the correct path of life and travel among it. I am thankful that Princess may be coming for a visit this weekend. I pray that she feels better but happy that the doctor says that she has no ear aches etc... maybe a touch of the flu.

Teaching Children To Help Others

I often think how great it is when I see people helping out. It was the way I was raised my parents and grandparent taught me from a young age how to help out. Perhaps they did not always have the money to help those in need but they seemed to always find the time to help others. That is perhaps the first tip you should have your children see you help others. Perhaps if possible if they are old enough to help out their selves that is what they should do. I can remember the many times that we helped clean houses, work on houses and deliver meals and food.

Volunteering as a family draws you all closer. It allows the child to learn the importance of helping out the community and demonstrates to them that you care as well. You can have them go through there stuff that they no longer play with or wear. Letting them take part in decisions helps them to grow to be a strong person as well. Also remind them of all that they have and they should be thankful.

As I said my grandparents and parents taught me great morals and lessons as a child. I carried this through with my own children. We have volunteered in shelters, food pantries, clothing closets, helped older adults at the church, as well as many other places. I hope that you will find something that you and your child can do together as a family.

If you are a mommy, daddy, grandparent, or caregiver of a little one they are precious to you. You would do anything to take care of them. Every little aspect including their teeth are important. Parents online shares seven tips to taking care of your child's teeth. Since my own were little we would begin when they were small using a warm washcloth to clean off their gums after taking a bottle. Phone and Internet Outage

It seems that today was not my day to be on the internet. I got on early visited a few blog, checked my email, etc... and then boom internet and phone went down. It seems that the gas company using a tractor hit a place that they should not have. The 911 systems of a few different towns, the internet of many , land line and cell phones of many went down. Now 12 hours later we are back up and running but of course it is the end of the day. So all I can say is chalk it up and go on with life start over again tommorow.

Book Review: They're Your Parents Too by Francine Russo

I recently had the chance to review a book that hit close to home for me. As the second oldest of five siblings I have allot of responsibility in family situations. My brothers are strong and great and try to take care of all it is hard for one person to do all. My sisters are bold, hard headed and like things their way. When you get all five of us together it can be quite a feat. That is why I loved the book They're Your Parents Too by Francine Russo. The book is about adult children who have aging parents and the task that goes with caring for their parents. My parents were baby boomers and many of my friends , like me have aging parents.

The book shares the fact that the oldest daughter would normally take care of the parents. In my family when my father was bad this was not the case my brother still lived at home as adult children and took care of my parents. So with this in mind my brother who is a bachelor still lives at home with my mom and while her health is great and no fear of her being sick I wonder what will happen when and if she ever gets sick as she gets older.

My mother has her ideas of what each of us children should do. She seems to think that I am the family historian and that my kid brother should be allowed to know about family history when he gets older. Finances seem to fall in my brothers care as he seems to help her with this and my younger brother does most of anything he is asked to. But while we all agree now and help our mom do what she ask the question the book They're Your Parents Too ask on the matter of finances seems to open my eyes a bit here as well. I am not sure if my mother has ever shared financial information with anyone and that scares me. When the time comes I believe my brothers and I should try to find out what we should do and where finances stand. Thanks to Francine Russo and the book They're Your Parents Too I have a new outlook in these matters.

We all have parents that is for sure. Whether we have the opportunity to care for our parents and do it our way or we have siblings that we must get along with the fact is one day our parents will all need cared for. Francine Russo book They're Your Parents Too may be just the book that you need to help keep it all together.
