saturday 6

1) The lyrics tell us that the girl of his dreams lives up on a hill. Is there a hill near your home? Or is the terrain pretty flat where you are?

yes I live on a street with many hills. My area directly where my house is flat but a few houses down on either side is a hill

2) Another clue to her whereabouts is that she's about a mile from town. Will you be staying close to home this weekend, or will you be traveling a mile or more?

no need to go anywhere this weekend kids have basketball games and we had family dinner tonight... tomorrow church

3) Sam admits she's crazy about the sax solo. Is there a particular musical instrument that you love to listen to?

clarinet I played in high school and love the sound

4) This is the only record The Strollers made for States, a company based out of Chicago. States was only in existence for five years (1952-57) and this was the 63rd or 64 records released before they went out of business. Tell us about a business in your neighborhood that recently closed their doors.

In our area been many A few towns away the Macy's store closed its door. However good news as I hear this spring maybe new store coming here

5) More than 60 years after its initial release, this song enjoyed new popularity when Xfinity used it in commercials for their wifi. What company is your internet service provider? Are you happy with it?

Cable and for the most part we are happy

6) In researching this week's song, Sam googled "strollers" and was surprised to discover how many different types of baby buggies are available today. When did you most recently push a child in a stroller?

not recently but foreseen in future as had grand-child born in September

7) In 1957, the year this song was released, President Eisenhower celebrated his second inaugural with a parade featuring more than 50 marching bands. The mercury never quite reached 45º that day. How's the weather outside your front door?

cold with temps in teens tonight and in 30-40s in daytime

8) One of the best-selling books of 1957 was Peyton Place. This steamy saga of small town life launched two films, two television series, and several made-for-tv movies. Is there a book that you enjoyed that was successfully turned to a movie?

not that I can currently think of

9) A Peyton Place-inspired question: Can a man be physically unfaithful to a woman, but still love her?

I believe that can happen as sex to me has nothing to do with love

Time for a Financial Checkup

The new year is here and that often means we should take a look at our finances. Making sure all is running right Here are some quick tips:

  •  It's tax season again so begin to gather all your W-2s. year end tax statements as well as checking into your yearly deductions. Often you can have too much taken out or not enough removed from your check. Remember if you have a child turning 18 you will need to change the number of deductions
  • Take a look into your property taxes. What has your house been appraised at?? Are the taxes to high according to that appraisal?? What about the mortgage have the taxes been reduced if they are included in your mortgage
  • Take a look at the insurance policy does it need updated?? Let your agent know you will be looking into the competitors price and they may possibly be able to lower your cost. Combining all your policies with one company may allow you extra discounts. Any safety features to your home or energy efficient products your begin using may also qualify you for extra savings
  • Make a list of those financial speed bumps that often come up around same time each year. The trash bill, car auto changes, vacations, and the holidays. Plan these into the budget so you are prepared
  • Do you have an "emergency fund" for those little expenses that may just come up?? Perhaps you have been able to build up your savings account on a regular basis. Now is the time to bump it up just a bit even if it is just a few more dollars than normal

Do It The Right Way or the opposite of that

Today, January 25th, hosts an informal holiday known as Opposite Day. This day may have been suggested from a playground day where children would trick each other by asking silly questions then reversing the appropriate answers Join in on the fun by reversing your appropriate statements and saying the opposite. Sound easy?? Perhaps you should try it an entire day it may not be as easy as you think

A stimulating game of opposites may leave you a bit rushed as you try to figure out what everyone is talking about. Good mental agility, quick humor and use of good word concept may help you through out the challenge. Use caution as you play along ensuring all those in the group understand it is opposite day otherwise you may leave some having mixed up feelings.

How not to celebrate Opposite day

  •  Call in healthy to work, but stay home anyway.
  • Stop at green lights, and proceed on red. Accelerate on yellow
However to have a bit of fun and it is National Opposite Day try doing something such as eating breakfast for supper, supper for breakfast, wearing PJs during the day and day time clothes at night etc...

Dont Stress it

Feel as if there is to much stress in your life??? Don't worry we all have most likely felt that way one time or another. If you have never felt stressed then I need to hear your story. However, if you are like me and would love to feel less stressful in life then here are a few tips

  •  Take care of your items by performing routine care to your car, appliances, home and even your relationships. By taking care of these as you go along then you will have less trouble in the days to come
  • Going to the doctor , car mechanic or somewhere you will be waiting for a bit??? Take along a puzzle book (that's what I do) or something to read to make your wait less stressful and more pleasant
  •  Don't put things off the best times to do them is as soon as possible so if it can be done now do it to get it done and feel better.
  • Keep stocked up whether it be keeping 1/2 tank of gas in the car, keeping a well stocked pantry and "emergency" food plan, or whatever it is do not put it off until you are nearly out or find your self needing something and totally out
  • Dont get stressed out by something you need and use daily not working properly. Get it fixed or get a new one. Now I understand car issues may take a bit more but things such as your alarm clock, shoe laces or whatever else you can fix or exchange do so now.

Spaghetti Squash with Sausage

1 spaghetti squash
2 tablespoon of extra-virgin olive oil
1 onion chopped
1 pound of Italian Sausage or Veggie Sausage chopped
1 tablespoon fresh chopped sage or 1/4 cup fresh chopped parsley
pinch of red pepper flakes
pinch of nutmeg
grated parmesan cheese for garnish

Pre-heat the oven to 400 degrees. Cut squash in half and scrap out seeds and stringiness. Salt and roast flesh side up on a baking sheet for about 30 minutes or until the flesh gets slightly brown and you can easily puncture it with a fork.  While the squash is cooling, sauté the onion and sausage in the olive oil on medium high heat in a large skillet. When the squash can be touched use a fork to scrap loose it's stringy flesh. Add squash, along with red pepper flakes, nutmeg, and parsley to the sausage and onions in the skillet. Mix and add more olive oil if the squash needs more sauce. Garnish individual servings with parmesan cheese.
