Songs of Stephen Foster

One great American musician in fact often referred to as the "father of American music" was Stephen Collins Foster. It seems the day he was born on July 4, 1826 should have signified he would be someone one day. Many of his songs began out as parlor songs and grew into songs that were learned during childhood.

One song that was wrote by Stephen Collins Foster was wrote in 1852 and was greatly influenced by the anti - slavery movement. His visit to Bardstown Kentucky and to the farm known as Federal Hill was a great inspiration as well. "My Old Kentucky Home, Good-Night" took root. The song was adopted as the Kentucky State Song as well.

Another popular song Oh my Susannah is one that I have personally sang since childhood. The folk song was created as a minstrel song by Stephen Foster. First published in 1848 it has taken its place among top Americana songs.
