The Tuba

The Tuba is the largest and lowest pitched musical instrument in the brass family. The sound is produced by moving air near the lips causing them to vibrate or "buzz" into a large cupped mouthpiece. The tuba was first introduced during the mid 19th century

September 12, 1835 work began on a "brass tuba" The first tenor tuba was invented in 1838.  The addition of valves made it possible to play low in the harmonic series of the instrument and still have a complete selection of notes.

Now that you know more about the tuba please take a moment to listen to some tuba music
