Tips for First Time Gardeners

There are a few things to keep in mind when you start your garden

  • plants need water and the gardener must pay for the water unless the water comes from a well. Seeds and or seedlings do need much more than a few cups of water every few days and they are good to go. As the plants grow the water intake will grow as well.

  • Plants also need nutrients to grow and grow well. Nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium are all nutrients are plants need. Soil and some plants can help get some of these important nutrients. It is important to feed plants before preparing the soil and before you plant anything. Fertilizing our plants before they are planted is very important step not to forget.

  • In the beginning start a small garden. Gardens require daily attention. With the upkeep, pruning, feeding, watering, de-bugging, troubleshooting problems, preventive maintenance, harvesting and general upkeep.
  • Remember to those who have gardening experience. While it may be tempting to ignore most times it is good advice that you can use. If you learn from your mistakes you too will be able to share advice with first time gardeners in the future.
Have fun and learn a bit in this first year. You will never be able to do the first year again so dont worry if your garden is not as nice as the next guys they most likely have more years of experience on them.
