The name Eagle is a common name for many large birds of prey from the family of Accipitridae. These birds may or may not be related to each other. With more than 60 species of eagles from Eurasia and Africa There are two species that can be found in North America, nine species in Central and South America and three more species in Australia.

Eagles are large, powerfully built birds of prey. Eagles are blessed with heavy heads and beaks. Most eagles are larger than any other raptors apart from some vultures. The South Nicobar serpent Eagle is the smallest known. All eagles have strong beaks, powerful eyes, powerful talons and muscular legs. Eagles will build their nests in tall trees or on high cliffs. Eagles lay at least 2 eggs with the older chic killing the other. Females are bigger than males and often the winner of the battle of siblings with parents doing nothing.

Eagles dine on smaller water birds, and snakes. Some eagles will dine on medium sized vertebrate. Eagles are among the largest birds of prey with only condors and a few other vultures larger. Forest eagles have shorter wing span so they can fly and dive through the tree filled forest. Other eagles such as the fish eagles, booted eagles, snake and harpy eagles all have their adaptions, diets and size to help them live longer and happier.
