WE ARE THE WORLD - Original - 1985

The year was 1985.... There is a famine going on in Africa. Ethiopia and surrounding area has seen a civil war being fought for 20 years. The land has been haunted with droughts and poor harvest. There are millions that are starving and suffering from disease while the country's own government spends money on weapons instead of helping their own people. 

One individual from Great Britain by the name of Bob Geldof will inspire others to wage a war of their own. A war of fundraising to help the citizens of Ethiopia. The group organized by Harry Belafonte and Ken Kragon would create a record to help raise money. Quincy Jones, Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie would al help to create a memorable record that would be used to help save a country.

Quincy Jones would bring together a group of 45 musicians that would record a song overnight that would help raise the needed funds. The group known as "U.S.A" for Africa would be established at the AMA music awards The song "We Are The World" was released and quickly rose to the top of the charts reaching #1 just 3 months after the release/ More than 1.5 million copies were sold. Including one for our house as my Mother bought us a copy as well. One single record made many positive changes including helping others to set off their own charitable projects.
