Did you know that Thanksgiving was not always celebrated on the same day in the United States?? The first Thanksgiving was held on Thursday November 26, 1621 and was held at Plymouth Rock. The Wampanoag Native Americans and the colonist came together to celebrate harvest with a feast. Previous to 1863 colonies and states celebrated a form of Thanksgiving on different days. However, during the civil war in 1863 Abe Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving day to be held each November.
