Schedule Physicals in Summer

Early summer is often a great time to schedule back to school physicals. The reason is that many times in late summer is busy with back to school shopping which may be financially binding. Another reason is that many times the doctors are super busy with the back to school physicals Yet, another reason is to ensure your child is healthy.

During a school physical the primary care provider will ensure all of your child's body systems are working with no apparent problems. If something seems wrong then they will help you get a lead on the problem and help find early intervention resources that will help in the new school year. In addition, the physician will ensure all immunizations are up to date.

A visit to the doctor may also offer valuable lessons as well. A talk about many summer activities may occur. Talks about making sure to wear a helmet while riding a bike or wearing a seatbelt in car are a few different conversations must take place. Perhaps, the physical is so your child can participate in athletics there are important steps in this procedure as well Student athletes need to be instructed on eating healthy, exercising safely, and managing physical conditions while playing sports.

NO matter the reason for the physical it is best to be prepared with a plan. Are there questions that you want to ask the doctor?? Have any concerns about your child's level or health?? Here are some things you may want to think about

  • Has your child complained of any pain, fatigue, dizziness or digestive problems?
  • Has your child reached important developmental milestones on time? Has your child experienced any learning difficulties or other classroom problems?
  • Have your child’s eating habits changed?
  • Does your child seem anxious or depressed?H
  • How well does your child sleep?

Your child’s provider will likely address many of these points through the physical. However, there will be time for you to ask questions during the exam to ensure you are fully supported in your child’s overall health and well-being.
