Buffalo Bill Cody

One of the best known Pony Express riders was Buffalo Bill Cody. Starting at the age of 14 Cody rode with the Pony Express. Later he would fight in the American civil war and serve as a scout for the army. However, it was most likely the Wild West Shows that brought fame to Buffalo Bill Cody.


Facts about Buffalo Bill Cody:

  • Born William F. Cody February 26, 1846. 
  • Cody worked as a messenger and wrangler early in life
  • at the age of 14 Buffalo Bill joined the Pony Express and was hired for the position as he was "skinny, expert rider who was willing to risk death daily"
  • Served in the American Civil War. He would gain his nickname during his run in the military in 1867. To feed construction crews that were building railroads Bill would kill buffalo. In under 2 years Buffalo Bill would kill 4,280 buffaloes
