American Heart Month

February has many noted holidays including valentines day and presidents day but there is also American Hearth Health Month. Issues with the heart continue to be the number one cause of death in men and women in the United States.

Simple changes can make a big difference. Some ideas to get started include:

  • ♥ Talk to your doctor about ways to control high blood pressure.
  • ♥ Add physical activity to your daily routine.
  • ♥ Make heathy eating swaps, such as using fresh or dried herbs and spices instead of  salt.
  • ♥ Quit smoking.

Most of us are able to recognize what are known to many as tell tale signs of a heart attack including the sudden extreme pain in the chest and left arm. Attention also now includes symptoms in women that are often drastically different. Women often have signs that are less dramatic and much related to stress or minor illness

All of us should take care Here are a few things you can do to join the cause of bringing awareness and go red

  • Get Your Numbers: Ask your doctor to check your blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose.
  • Own Your Lifestyle: Stop smoking, lose weight, be physically active and eat healthy.
  • Raise Your Voice: Advocate for more women-related research and education.
  • Educate Your Family: Make healthy food choices for you & your family. Teach your kids the importance of staying active.
  • Donate: Show your support with a donation of time or money.
