Sanctity of Life

This past Sunday, January 20th was Sanctity of Life Sunday. It was President Ronald Reagan who issued a proclamation that designated January 22 1984 as the first National Sanctity of Human Life Day. Churches around the country will share in celebrating God's gift of life, commemorate the many lives lost to abortion and commit themselves to protecting human life at every stage.

January 22, 1974 the United States Supreme Court legalized abortion on demand in all 50 states.

Advocates for abortions will often say that the issue in abortion is not always the sanctity of life but the quality of life. They argue that severely handicapped individuals will not have a life worth living. When test such as the amniocentesis are performed and the fetus is found to have abnormalities the result is often abortions. However, the question is the world meant to be perfect?? Are abortionist similar to the Third Reich of Hitler when abortions are performed because the fetus is not perfect??

“Who has made man’s mouth? Or who makes him dumb or deaf, or seeing or blind?  Is it not I, the Lord?”  (Ex. 4:11; cf John 9:1-3). Evidently there is sanctity in the quality of human life.

  1. Thank you for posting this! I have had friends over the years that have had amnio tests and, had they listened to the doctors, would have aborted their healthy babies. I've also heard of these tests causing infection and unwanted termination of pregnancy. I was in my 30's for my last pregnancy. The doctor tried to scare us into this procedure insisting that we need to know if special measures were needed at the time of delivery. We declined asking-aren't there people at the hospital, where we were having the baby, ready for all these possibilities? I wonder how long it will be before insurance companies refuse coverage to parents who decide to not abort the baby when tests show there will be "abnormalities". Praise the Lord that we all have something contribute in spite of all our imperfections-obvious or not.
