Chocolate... Came a Long Way

Chocolate has long been served as a drink. It was a favorite of the Emperor of the Aztecs, Montezuma. Cortez the Spanish conquistador would bring back the drink to spain in 1529. It quickly became a favorite of Spanish royalty and in time spread throughout Europe. It would take around 300 years before chocolate would be made into something other than a drink.
It is not known who first made 'chocolate for eating' but it was Joseph Fry in 1847 who demonstrated mixing cocoa powder, sugar and cocoa into a paste that would be pressed into moulds. These early chocolate  bars were bittersweet but it did not seem to matter as they all loved them

Another name big in chocolate history, John Cadbury, created a similar chocolate product in 1849. The early candybars of both Cadbury and Fry were not considered tasty. The first sweet and tasty candy bar would be made by Henry Nestle and Daniel Peter in 1875. Nestle was presently a maker of evaporated milk and Peter was a chocolate maker. The milk chocolate was more considered tasty for those that loved chocolate.

A step further would occur in 1879 when Rodolphe Lindt would add cocoa butter to the chocolate This chocolate would melt on the tongue but hold the shape in a hardened state.

The Chicago World's Fair in 1893 would see even more chocolate making. This time in the form of machinery. Milton S. Hershey used the chocolate machinery in Lancaster factory and produced the first American made milk chocolate bar in 1900.

Chocolate would have many different individuals trying to increase the manner of which it was made, increase the taste and even adding ingredients into the chocolate. The first wrapped candy bar would be another introduction by Hershey.
