Bison's Have Their Own Day


National Bison Day occurs on the first Saturday in November. The first celebration was held in 2012 It is a day to look at the ecological,  cultural, historical and economic contribution of the American bison also known as the American buffalo. Native Americans, bison producers, conservationists, sportsmen, and educators are often at the help at this special day. 


American bison is located only in North America In the United States and Canada Bison are primarily known as buffalo. The American and European bison are the largest surviving terrestrial animals in North America and Europe. Similar in appearance to bovines such as cattle Bison are broad and muscular with shaggy coats of long hair. Growing to over 6 feet tall an 11 feet wide with a weight of around 660 lbs. These nomadic grazers travel in herds with males travel in a group until they reach maturity where they travel alone. American bison can be found living in river valleys, on prairies and plains. The grasslands, sagebrush and other scrublands attract the bison.
