Being a Vegan during the Holidays

Holidays often bring many together with different beliefs , eating habits and personalities. Vegans are some of those that will face differences. The act of dining differently makes some uncomfortable which can make even the happiest times challenging. However, there are some things that can be done to help.

My daughter has been a vegan since early on. She is a bit demanding at home but sometimes she still feels a bit awkward around others. Good thing she has such a big family to take care of her and her needs. But for new vegans or those that are not as vociferous eating may be a problem that can not be avoided. The very task of preparing food that will keep everyone happy can be daunting.

Thanksgiving and Christmas are often surrounded around holidays. The challenge of food served at events can make those with different eating habits feel uneasy. At times they may decide not to attend at all but food should not demand where we go or what we do.

On the other hand if there is a bit of understanding, patience and compassion then the dinner or gathering should go a lot better. Just like those on special diets due to health restrictions vegans are no different a choice is being made of what foods to enjoy. A new level of shared respect, love and gratitude can serve bring families closer. All that is needed at times is for a vegan to explain why it is that they do what they do or what they eat what they eat.

If more family members were aware of the reasoning as well as what a vegan enjoys they may just feel more able to include more vegan recipes in the meals. A gesture such as this will help vegan feel and more comfortable everyone will be. The vegan cuisine can be fun, exciting, delicious, healthful and satisfying. In addition it makes a beautiful, colorful spread perfect for any holiday occasion
