American Cheese

American cheese is a processed cheese in the colors of orange, yellow, or white. The cheese has a slight taste of salt as well as a faint taste of sweet. The consistency is of medium that melts at a lower heat than other cheeses.



The first American cheese was only available in the color of white. Later it was given a slightly yellower cheese when a new seasoning was added American cheese is manufactured using other cheese. American cheese is always sold under the label "processed cheese" or "cheese food" Cheese food has dairy ingredients such as cream, milk, skim milk, buttermilk, or cheese whey are added.

Cheese was one of the first things made after the British colonists arrived in North America. By 1790 American cheddar were being exported back to England. By 1911 the invention of processed cheese allowed James L Kraft to produce "American Cheese"



2 TBSP Butter
2 TBSP All purpose flour
1 Cup Milk
7 Slices American cheese
1/2 Tsp Salt
Dash Garlic powder ; Optional

6 Servings

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and stir in flour. Pour in the milk and stir until the mixture thickens. Stirring constantly, mix in cheese and salt. Continue to cook and stir until cheese has melted and all ingredients are well blended.

Mixes well with broccoli and cauliflower or any garden medley vegetables.

serve this cheese sauce over pasta, veggies or where ever you choose
