Mothers Goose Day

To many Mother Goose is a well known set of verses, nursery rhymes and fairy tales. But who is Mother Goose?? The truth is that there is no real person named Mother Goose, rather it is an imaginary author. Many times you will see a picture of an old country woman who wears a tall hat that is riding a goose. Other times, a picture of a goose wearing a bonnet and reading glasses is used to represent Mother Goose.

\Old Mother Goose,
When she wanted to wander,
Would ride through the air
On a very fine gander.

One may wonder how many Mother Goose rhymes and tales there are ?? It has been estimated that the number would be around 700 pieces of work. Mother Goose rhymes have helped many children learn language abilities as well. These poems would include Baa Baa Black Sheep, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star , Three Blind Mice.

No one is for sure Mother Goose came from or who she was inspired by. Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes were developed over several centuries. There are more than likely several authors who have had their work joined together. The first individual known for inventing fairy tales was Charles Perrault of France. He was responsible for re-sharing many old Mother Goose rhymes as well as the story of the Sleeping Beauty and Little Red Riding Hood.
