To jump or not to jump

We all love fall leaves. The crisp sound when we walk on them and the beauty of their variety of colors leaves us happy with leaves. But there a few dark sides that we must be aware of.

Wet leaves may be dangerous if they possess a harmful bacteria such as mold. For those with mold allergies or asthma this could become a real problem. The best thing to do in this case is to avoid the wet leaves all together. Parents should also be careful raking these leaves one thing they can do is to wear a respirator mask.

We are not the only ones that love fall leaves. Parasites such as ticks love leaves as well. If you or your child are outdoors be sure to carefully examine to ensure you did not take any hitch hikers home. Before letting your child play in the leaves make sure that there are no rocks or sticks in the pile that could hurt your child. If the leaves have been in the pile just sitting there for a few days there may be other varmints like bugs or snakes in the pile making them unplayful to me.

Jumping in leaves is your choice as well as it is mine. I say when we rake let the kids play for the day having fun but at the end of the day just like we do with toys we should get rid of the leaves.
