Breast Cancer Awareness

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease and help raise funds for research into cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure. October has been the date for Breast Cancer Awareness Month since 1985. A partnership between the American Cancer Society and the pharmaceutical division AstraZeneca helped bring the holiday together. Promoting mammography as mosst effective weapon in fight against breast cancer.

Evelyn Lauder vice president of Estee Lauder Companies in 1993 founded the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. The pink ribbon symbol has come to symbolize breast cancer. In 1991 Susan G. Komen Foundation handed out pink ribbons to participants in the New York City race for breast cancer survivors.

The color pink is considered a feminine color in modern Western countries. The pink ribbon also represents fear of breast cancer, hope for future, and charitable goodness of people and businesses who support breast cancer movement. Buying , wearing, displaying or sponsoring pink ribbon signals a person or business cares about women.

Each year many sports teams will take time to share awareness of breast cancer. One of the ways they share is by representing those who they are supporting, showing pride for those that are surviving and offer hope for all. Recently our football team hosted a pinkout where the players wore the names of survivors on their jerseys.

What do you know about Breast Cancer and the pink ribbon?? How do you show support?? There are many things you can do
