Happy Birthday National Park Servic

August 25 1916 is the date in history when President Woodrow Wilson signed the Organic Act. This act established the National Park Service. The Department of Interior oversees the National Park Service. There are more than 400 areas in the United States, territories and District of Columbia totaling 84 million acres.


Today is the day to pay respect to the superior conservation and preservation efforts of the National Parks System. With the many trails, open scenery, waterways, or recreational areas the national parks provids a natural outdoor resource that every American should be able to enjoy.
