Minority Mental Health Awareness Month

Disparities in mental health care for people in diverse communities continue to struggle to receive the treatment that they need. The poorer quality of care comes at a high cost to our communities. Mental illness affects one in four American families. Minorities according to the U.S. Surgeon General are :

  • less likely to be diagnosed and treated correctly for mental illness
  • have less access to and availabilty of mental health services
  • often receive poorer quality of mental health care
  • are not equally represented in mental health research

Take a look at the statistics showing how Multicultural Mental Health is touchin the U.S.

  2. I think that we need to start treating mental health like all other physical illnesses. It's real and those results are sad :(

  4. Oh wow, I had no idea it was as common as 1 in 5! It's a shame there is still so much we don't know about mental health - hopefully statistics like this encourage more funding and research into it! :)
