Miss America has long been a beauty show to be watched and talked about. Since I was a child beauty pageants were very much watched. One of my best friends wanted to be Miss America. She won beauty pageants at the local level, county level, and state level. This was before the other large pageants were popular. While she did not get Miss America she enjoyed her role and I am sure there are many other young girls that will be watching the pageant with stars in their eyes.

Miss America is a scholarship pageant held each year and open to women in the U.S. The women are between the ages of 17 and 24. The first Miss America pageant was hosted in 1921. Judged on the competitors' talent, interviews and beauty. Linwood New Jersey plays host to the pageant where educational scholarships are awarded to successful competitors

Miss America will travel about 20,000 miles a month. She will tour the nation promoting her platform of interest. Miss America winner will host a busy schedule staying no where more than 24 to 48 hours as she travels.

  6. I have stopped watching pageants a long time ago. But it's nice to know that in inspires girls. I'm not sure about the impact though, because people are more into diminishing the beauty standards that we have now.

  13. I didn't know they offer scholarships. I may consider putting my oldest into a pageant. Sounds like my schedule would be busier, but my daughter loves this type of stuff.

  16. I really love that the Miss America title requires more than just a beauty contest. While it's fine to include that, I feel like there is so much more to contestants and women in general that they should be celebrated for!
