National Cholesterol Education Month

September welcomes in the beginning of school but oh so much more as well. If you have not noticed the seasons are quietly starting to change as the days are getting shorter. Now when I go to work in the morning it is still dark outside and the day light is not lasting as long as it did just a couple of weeks ago. Labor Day welcomes in with it football games, the end of baseball season, and the beginning of fall. It is also a good time to take a look at what we eat and what it does to our body. September is National Cholesterol Education Month and I want to take a stand here on Annies Home blog to share with you a few facts regarding cholesterol.

Having too much cholesterol in the blood is one of the main risk factor for heart disease and stroke. Many adults who have had their cholesterol checked and have high LDL (bad) cholesterol do not have their condition under control. Leaving them living with more risk of health issues.

You can manage your cholesterol level by stating in lifestyle changes. Exercise, no smoking, eating a healthy low-fat and high fiber diet rich in fruits and vegetables is a great place to start

If your doctor has prescribed medication to help you control your cholesterol levels you should take the medication exactly as prescribed.

High Cholesterol is another silent problem that exist without symptoms. Screening through a simple blood test is used to detect whether there is a problem. During National Cholesterol Education Month why not take the time and do yourself a favor and be screened for high cholesterol.
