Drive Sober
There are just a few life rules that I still enforce on my children even though they are now all adults. One of these is drinking and driving. As a young girl I saw my uncle killed, my grandmother, grandfather, and great grandmother all hurt in a car wreck that was caused by a drunk driver going home. At that time there were no real drunk driving arrest or laws. So this man had no idea that he had hit my family until after the police knocked on the door to give him a ticket going through a red light. He was sitting in a chair asleep had no idea what had happened. So driving drunk in our book is never ok as when driving a car you should always drive safe. Sober driving is the only way to do it but during the upcoming holiday season there will be many that do not follow this simple law and you should be ready or aware that the police will be out.
Here in the state of Illinois where I live and through out the nation patrols will be stepping up to enforce driving laws. Drink Sober or get pulled over and the Click it or Ticket campaign will be in full force over the Labor day Weekend. Between August 24th through September 7th stops for DUI saturation and seat belt enforcement will be going on.
Stats show that In 2013 there were 10,076 people killed in drunk driving crashes in the U.S. 38% of the fatal accidents that occurred over the Labor Day weekend amounted to 161 lives lost (in a single weekend) Out of all the people killed during 2013 there were 65% of them that were drinking and driving their selves. They all planned to make it to their destination but did not.
Have a few drinks, relax and have some fun but be smart about it. Stay home and have a house party where no one will leave, use a designated driver, or simply call a cab. Remember to wear your seatbelt it may just save your life. Likewise, get caught in Illinois driving under the influence the cost to you may run up to $20,000.
