7 minute frosting

One secret weapon that my grandmother kept in her cooking bag was 7 minute frosting yummy!!! Just look how pretty it looks on this simple cake that I prepared.

3/4 cup sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 cup boiling water

1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar

3 unbeaten egg whites

food coloring (optional)

coconut (optional)

Mix sugar, cream of tartar, vanilla and egg whites. Add boiling water. Beat on high til mixture forms peaks (like meringue) approx 5-7 minutes.

  4. Prettiest frosting ever. I made valentine cakes when I was about 13 for a retirement center with heart shaped cakes and used Red, pink and white with this. They were beautiful. I am now 66 and this is still my favorite.
