Two Ways to Make A Texas Sheet Cake


Chocolate Texas Sheet Cake

1/2 c shortening

1 stick margarine

3 T cocoa

1 c water


Put on medium heat and boil. Remove from heat and add....


2 c flour

2 c sugar

1 t salt

1/2 c buttermilk

1 t baking soda dissolved in buttermilk

2 eggs

1 t vanilla


Mix all then add to hot mix. Batter will be thin Pour into greased cake sheet pan Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes


Icing

1 lb. powder sugar

1 stick margarine

3 T cocoa

3 1/2 T evaporated milk

1 c pecans, chopped


Heat margarine, milk, and cocoa til melted and well mixed Add to powder sugar and blend til smooth Ice cake while warm Add nuts on top



White Texas Cake

1 cup margarine

1 c buttermilk

2 c flour

2 eggs

1 t salt

1/2 c sour cream

1 t almond extract

2 c sugar

1 t baking soda


In large saucepan, bring butter and buttermilk to boil. Remove from heat and stir in sugar, eggs, sour cream, amond extract, salt, soda and flour (add flour last and beat the entire time you are adding the flour to avoid lumps) Pour into a greased 15 inch x 10 inch x 1 inch pan Bake 375 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes or til cake is golden brown and test dine Cool


Frosting

1 stick margarine

1/4 c milk

4 1/2 c powder sugar

1/2 t almond flavoring

1 c pecans, chopped


In saucepan, combine margarine and milk boil, Remvoe heat and add powdered sugar and almond extract Mix well Spread over cake and sprinkle with nuts
